SECTION-A

1. What will be the sign of a x b, if a is positive and b is the product of 30 negative


numbers?

2. Simplify (−1) 191 + (−1) 20 + (−1) 25 − (−1) 2

3. On the given number line, which point represents the number:

b) 𝟓 × 𝟎

4. A multistorey building has 25 floors above the ground level each of height 5 m.
It also has 3 floors in the basement each of height 5 m. A lift in building moves
at a rate of 1m/s . If a man starts from 50m above the ground, how long will it
take him to reach at 2nd floor of basement?

5. Solve using suitable properties :


a) – 125 × 25 × 80 x 4
b) 4574 × 99 ─ (─ 4574)
c) 1982 X ( ─16 ) + (─1982 ) X 84

6. Which is lesser?
a) ─ 84 ÷ 4 ─ 10 or ─ 84 ÷ ( 4 ─ 10 )

8. Add the additive inverse of (− 3 + 21 − 50  2of 5) to the product of – 3, – 5 and – 6.

9. Water level in a well was 20m below ground level. During rainy season, rain
water collected in different water tanks was drained into the well and the water
level rises 5 m above the previous level. The wall of the well is 1m 20 cm high
and a pulley is fixed at a height of 80 cm. Raghu wants to draw water from the
well.What is the minimum length of the rope that he can use to fetch the water ?

10. A grain wholesaler earns a profit of Rs.12 per bag of wheat sold and a loss of
Rs.8 per bag of rice sold.
a) If he sells 1500 bags of wheat and 2050 bags of rice in a month , what is his
profit or loss?
b) What is the number of wheat bags he must sell to have neither profit nor loss,
if the number of rice bags sold is 2400 bags ?
11. In a quiz +2 marks are given for a correct answer , − 1 marks for an incorrect
answer and 0 marks for not attempting a question. Radhika scored 30 marks. If
she got 18 correct answers , how many questions did she attempt incorrectly ?

12. A Ladder has 10 steps. A labour has to carry some weight to the top. He
climbs the ladder 2 steps up in 1 sec and 1 step down in next second by
dancing on a famous tune. In how many seconds would he reach the top?
13. In each of the blanks in the given figure, use one integer out of ─3 , ─ 4, ─ 6 ,
14 , 21 and 28 so that the product in each line is ─1260.
