Crisis Management Plan

Student is demonstrating Crisis Behaviour School’s Directive Intervention Plan
If currently not seeing this level of escalation you can hide this section and it will not print. If needed this A crisis is a situation where behavior has escalated to the point where the child has lost all control of their own
portion of the behaviour plan will be created with the support of the Inclusive Education Support Teacher behaviour. Their behaviour may be putting themselves or others at a risk of physical injury, and in this situation the
and /or Peace Collaborative Services school will implement Nonviolent Crisis Intervention strategies (NVCI) to keep everyone safe.

1. Remain calm and maintain a neutral tone of voice

2. NVCI Team is called by the admin staff who has responded to initial call from classroom
3. Remove the audience by escorting the child to a safe space if it is safe to do so or by clearing the classroom.
a. Two people escort STUDENT
b. Both teacher and educational assistant stay with STUDENT
c. Adults will not touch or look directly at STUDENT while he/she calms as this escalates him/her even more
4. Attempt to defuse the situation by talking to STUDENT about a distracting or engaging topic
5. Maintain appropriate space from STUDENT unless there is a potential for threat of harm to other students
6. If the behaviour is physically dangerous and none of the above techniques work to de-escalate the situation, NVCI
trained staff may need to use safe, non-harmful restraint techniques in the least restrictive manner possible until
STUDENT is back under control.
7. Parents are called by admin or classroom teacher and will come to school in order to support STUDENT in
regulating behaviour and emotions (see Parent’s Supports)
NVCI team must complete the Physical Restraint/Safe Room Placement Incident Report
