ACTIVITY
Legislative and Regulatory Audit (Toyota, 2020)
With the continuous burning of fossil fuels to power different industries, the presence of greenhouse gases–
specifically carbon dioxide (CO 2), in the atmosphere continue to rise. As an effect, global temperature also
increases, which could lead to catastrophic environmental disasters in the future. This emergency prompts an
immediate response from different organizations to prevent these from happening and possibly reverse the
effects of global warming for a more livable future.
Toyota is aware of its environmental impact and has been continuously promoting a wide range of initiatives
to address increasingly severe global environmental issues, such as extreme weather, biodiversity depletion,
and water shortages. Through the Toyota Environmental Challenge (TEC) 2050, Toyota aims to go beyond zero
environmental impact and achieve a net positive impact in the communities it serves. Toyota affiliates around
the globe step up and work together with likeminded organizations to achieve the six (6) environmental goals
and ultimately build a more sustainable future for the next generations.
Requirements: (50 points)
 Read and analyze 05 Activity 1 Supplementary Readings. The reading is on the 2020 Sustainability
Report of Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation, highlighting six (6) environmental goals of the
company.
 Study the Philippine environmental laws for each consideration in identifying legislative and
regulatory issues (see Table 1).
 Based on the provided readings/supplementary research, create a catalog of environmental
information that applies to Toyota Philippines.
 Use the provided guide questions (in Table 2) and input your findings in Table 3. Then, briefly explain
whether Toyota practices (for each consideration; i.e., air, water, and so on) comply with the
Philippine environmental laws.
 Take note that you DO NOT have to answer the guide questions/environmental considerations item
by item (simply focus on items with available information/data).

Considerations Philippine Environmental Legislation/Regulation (DENR, 2021)

PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1152; SECTION 22 LAND USE MANAGEMENT
Planning and The law aims to provide a rational, orderly, and efficient acquisition, utilization, and disposition of

nation's needs and such resources.
REPUBLIC ACT 6969; TOXIC SUBSTANCES, HAZARDOUS AND NUCLEAR WASTE CONTROL ACT OF
1990
Hazardous The law aims to regulate, restrict, or prohibit the importation, manufacture, processing, sale,
distribution, use, and disposal of chemical substances and mixtures that present unreasonable risk
substances
to human health. It likewise prohibits the entry, even in transit, of hazardous and nuclear wastes
and their disposal into the Philippine territorial limits for whatever purpose; and provides
advancement and facilitates research and studies on toxic chemicals.
REPUBLIC ACT 8749; PHILIPPINE CLEAN AIR ACT OF 1999
The law aims to achieve and maintain clean air that meets the National Air Quality guideline values
Air

REPUBLIC ACT 9275 PHILIPPINE CLEAN WATER ACT OF 2004
The law aims to protect the country's water bodies from pollution from landbased sources
Water (industries and commercial establishments, agriculture, and community/household activities). It
provides for comprehensive and integrated strategy to prevent and minimize pollution through a
multisectoral and participatory approach involving all the stakeholders.
PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1152; SECTION 22 COMMUNITY NOISE STANDARDS; STANDARDS FOR
NOISEPRODUCING EQUIPMENT
The Law aims to regulate appropriate standards for community noise levels considering, among
others, location, zoning, and land use classification. There shall be established a standard for noise
producing equipment such as construction equipment, transportation equipment, stationary
Noise
engines, and electrical or electronic equipment and such similar equipment or contrivances. The
standard shall set a limit on the acceptable level of noise emitted from a given equipment for the
protection of public health and welfare, considering, among others, the magnitude and condition
of use, the degree of noise reduction achievable through the application of the best available
technology and the cost of compliance.
REPUBLIC ACT 9003 ECOLOGICAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT ACT OF 2000
In partnership with stakeholders, the law aims to adopt a systematic, comprehensive, and ecological
Waste solid waste management program that shall ensure the protection of public health and
