SWIMMING INDIVIDUAL

History

Swimming was practiced as early as 2500 BCE in Egypt, and later in


Assyrian, Greek, and Roman civilizations, according to archeological
and other evidence. Swimming was a part of martial training in Greece
and Rome, and it was associated with the alphabet.

TENNIS INDIVIDUAL

History

The origins of the game can be traced to a 12th–13th-century French


handball game called jeu de paume (“game of the palm”), from which
was derived a complex indoor racket-and-ball game: real tennis.

* A tennis court is 78ft (23.77m) in length. The courts used for singles
matches are 27ft (8.23m) wide, while doubles courts are 36ft (10.97m)

History

The roots of the sport can be traced to ancient Greece, China, and
India, and it is closely related to the old children's game battledore and

VOLLEYBALL TEAMSPORTS
History

William G. Morgan, the physical director of the Young Men's


Christian Association (YMCA) in Holyoke, Massachusetts,
invented volleyball in 1895. It was created as an indoor sport for
businesspeople who felt basketball to be too strenuous.

Court dimension and venue


The game is played on a volleyball court 18 meters (59 feet) long
and 9 meters (29.5 feet) wide, divided into two 9 m × 9 m halves
by a one-meter (40-inch) wide net placed so that the top of the
net is 2.43 meters (7 feet 11 5/8 inches) above the center of the
court for men's competition, and 2.24 meters (7 feet 4 1/8 .

BASKETBALL TEAMSPORTS

History
The history of basketball began with its invention in 1891 in
Springfield, Massachusetts by Canadian physical education instructor
James Naismith as a less injury-prone sport than football. Naismith
was a 31-year old graduate student when he created the indoor sport
to keep athletes indoors during the winters.

The dimensions of a basketball court in these cases also include a

• The game officials shall be a Crew Chief, Referee, Umpire and
Replay Center They will be assisted by an official scorer, two trained
timers, and courtside administrator. One timer will operate the game
clock and the other will operate the shot clock.

local chess club to participate.
