TITLE: EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING CONTEST

DESCRIPTION: Extemporaneous speaking may have a short or a long


preparation. The speaker may use an outline to guide him through his speech to
achieve better organization and to avoid leaving out details. But unlike reading
extemporaneous speaking necessitates the speaker to formulate his sentences
while he is speaking.

MECHANICS

1. This contest is open for all “College of Arts and Sciences” students only.
2. The topic shall be given on the spot by the judges.
3. The judges shall give topics prior to the start of the competition related to the
theme.
4. Speeches should be delivered in English.
5. The contestants shall be given five (5) minutes to prepare and five (5)
minutes to deliver.
6. A timer accessible to the contestant, judges and audience shall be provided.
7. The contest master is accountable to the sanctification of the competition.
8. There will be a 1-point deduction for every 30-second overtime from the
respective judges’ total score before determining the rank of the contestants.
9. The style of the delivery shall be conversational, oratorical or a combination
of both.
10. The contestants should wear formal/smart casual attire.
11. In case of a tie break, another question will be formulated by the judges and
their points will go back to zero.
12. Only three (3) winners will be selected, Second (2 nd) Place, First (1st) Place
and the Champion.
13. The contestants will be judged according to the criteria provided by the
committees.
14. Each winner shall receive a certificate of recognition. All participants shall
receive certificates of participation.
15. The Judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.

Content & Clear Organization 35%


Delivery 25%
Pronunciation, Enunciation, & Diction 20%
Stage Presence (eye contact, poise, personality) 20%
Total 100%
