Learning Task 1: Let’s Work on this!

Related Literature

1. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted every sector of society, including education.
Millions and millions of students have been affected (United Nations, 2020).
Nevertheless, this shocking number alone cannot reflect the adversity of the
consequences that the pandemic has brought about to education. Even today, not all
educational institutions around the world can return to “normal” campus life. Against this
backdrop, there is increasing interest in what the new normal in education should be like.

2. E-learning tools have played a crucial role during this pandemic, helping schools and
universities facilitate student learning during the closure of universities and schools
(Subedi et al., 2020).

3. While adapting to the new changes, staff and student readiness needs to be gauged and
supported accordingly. The learners with a fixed mindset find it difficult to adapt and
adjust, whereas the learners with a growth mindset quickly adapt to a new learning
environment. There is no one-size-fits-all pedagogy for online learning. There are a
variety of subjects with varying needs. Different subjects and age groups require
different approaches to online learning (Doucet et al., 2020).

4. Online learning also allows physically challenged students with more freedom to
participate in learning in the virtual environment, requiring limited movement (Basilaia &
Kvavadze, 2020).

5. The flipped classroom is a simple strategy for providing learning resources such as
articles, pre-recorded videos and YouTube links before the class. The online classroom
time is then used to deepen understanding through discussion with faculty and peers
(Doucet et al., 2020). This is a very effective way of encouraging skills such as problem-
solving, critical thinking and self-directed learning. The virtual classroom platforms like
videoconferencing (Google Hangouts Meet, Zoom, Slack, Cisco, WebEx) and
customizable cloud-based learning management platforms such as Elias, Moodle,
BigBlueButton and Skype are increasingly being used.

This Pandemic has impacted millions upon millions of people. Students, in particular, are unable
to attend school to meet with their teachers. Not all educational institutions throughout the world
are able to resume "regular" campus life today. Staff and student readiness must be assessed
and supported while adapting to the new adjustments. During the pandemic, e-learning tools
were critical in assisting schools and universities in facilitating student learning during the
shutdown of universities and schools. Physically challenged students can also benefit from
online learning because it allows them to participate in learning in a virtual environment with
limited movement. The flipped classroom is a simple approach for presenting learning resources
before class, such as articles, pre-recorded films, and YouTube links. The time spent in the
online classroom is then used to further comprehension by engaging in discussions with
teachers and peers.
