*Do you have an idea what is our lesson all about? *Answers may vary.

2. Reading of the objectives At the end of the 60-minute

lesson, the learners are able to:
*Everybody, kindly read loud and clear our
objectives. a. Define and illustrate
measures of position;
percentiles.
a. Solve problems involving
percentile rank.
b. Interpret the percentile
rank.

a. Presentation of the lesson

*Answer may vary.
*This morning, our lesson is all about
percentiles.
*In your own understanding, what is
percentiles?
 Measures of positions- are used to locate a
specific data in relation to the rest of data.
These include percentile, quartile, and decile.
 Percentile- are specific values that divide a data
set into 100 equal parts. (See page 324-325)

Percentile Formula:
X
K= ∙ 100
n
Where;
K= percentile rank

x= position of Pk

n= total number of data series

Illustrative Example:
 The score of 25 students in 50-item Statistic
Exam are as follows:
19 20 21 45 28
20 48 46 20 20
25 31 30 23 25
47 27 11 10 20
27 35 32 24 22

 Zayn’s score is 45.

a. Solve his percentile rank.
b. Interpret the percentile rank of Zayn.
Solution:
a. First you need to arrange the set from
lowest to highest score.
10,11,19,20,20,20,21,21,22,23,24,25,27,28,
30,31,32,35,45,46,47,48.
There are 20 scores from 10 ( lowest score)
to 45. The means x = 20.

*Apply the formula,

X
K= ∙ 100
n
*Given:

x = 20 n = 25

20
K= ∙ 100
25
= 0.8∙ 100
=80
P80= 45
b. Interpretation: This means that Zayn’s score is
higher that the score 80% of the class.

3. Activities

Instruction: For your activities, I will group you

into four groups. After answering each group
will have a volunteer to report their output.
Write it on manila paper. The group get a
highest score will receive a prize.
