INSTRUCTIONAL LEARNING KIT/MODULE

Language Learning Materials Development

ELT 3

FINALS

LET’S DO IT!
Intended Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the semester, students can:
Make hands on instructional materials that are used in the
Classroom.

Inputs:
To make the lesson more interesting and engaging, teachers must be
innovative in making and adapting instructional materials.
Puppetry is attractive to elementary grades specifically in reading and in
dialogues. Making puppets are not expensive and recycled materials can be used.

Making a Simple Sock Puppet

1.
Find a clean sock that's long enough to cover your arm. A crew sock or a knee sock would
work great for this! The sock can be any color you like. It can be fuzzy or plain. It can
even have stripes or polka dots! Just make sure there aren't any holes.

2
Slip the sock over your hand. Once you the sock on, make a C-shape with your hand.
Put your fingers into the toe part. Try to get your thumb into the heel part. If you can't
reach it, tuck the sock into the groove between your thumb and fingers.[1]
 Open and close your hand. Your sock should already start looking like a puppet.
3
Use a marker to make two dots above the seam for the eyes. If you want your puppet to
have a nose, make a dot for that as well.

4
Take the sock off. Spread it flat on the table. The marks for the eyes and nose may look
out of place, but that's fine. This is why you made them while wearing the sock.

5
Glue some eyes onto the sock. You can do this with a hot glue gun, fabric glue, or tacky
glue. For the actual eyes, you can use buttons, pompoms, or goggle eyes. You can also
draw the eyes on with a marker.
 If your puppet is a girl, draw some eyelashes with a marker!

6
Glue a small pompom just above the seam for the nose. You can also cut a triangle or
circle out of felt and use that instead. A button would also make a cute nose. If you don't
have any of these, you can draw a nose on instead!

7
Add some other decorations. Your puppet is done at this point. You can still glue items
onto it to give it more character. For example, you can glue some yarn to the top for
hair. For more ideas,

HOW TO MAKE PAPER BAG PUPPET (SUPOT)

1
Lay the paper bag on its smooth side. Keep the bottom flap facing up. Point the
opening toward you.
2
Draw the lips. Draw the upper lip on the flap, along its lower edge. Then draw the lower
lip on the body of the bag, where the edge of the flap meets it. Use the entire width of
the flap to create an exaggerated mouth if desired, or a smaller one in proportion to the
other facial features.

3
Draw the face. Use pencils, pens, crayons, and/or markers to draw outlines for the facial
features (nose, eyes, eyebrows, and ears, as well as hair if desired). Then color them in.

4
Draw the inside of the mouth. Open the flap. Be careful not to smooth out any creases.
Draw the tongue below the crease that you find under the flap. Add the throat and uvula
above the crease if desired.
 Alternately, you can cut out a small hole here wide enough for your finger and use that as
your tongue.

5
Fill in the body. Excluding the flap, use the lower three-quarters of the bag’s body to
design your puppet’s body.[1] For people, outline clothes and color them in. For
animals, outline their color pattern and then color in.

6
Use your puppet. Slide your hand into the opening. Curl your fingers up and under the
flap. Extend and curl your fingers to make your puppet “talk.”
