QUIZ NO. 4
REINFORCED CONCRETE DESIGN
Second Semester, AY 2021 - 2022
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Use the ‘class paper format’ standardized by the whole class for Quizzes and Exams Period;
2. Do not copy the answer/solution of your classmates (all student/s caught copying or cheating will be automatically 5.0 on this assessment);
3. Read the questions carefully;
4. Write the answers/solutions legibly;
5. Make sure to submit a clear (not blurred) finalized output; and
6. Box your final answer and round it off to 4 decimal places.
PROBLEM SOLVING
A cantilever one-way slab, 1.2-m long, supports a dead load of 6.0 kPa (including its own weight) and a live load of
4.80 kPa. The slab is made of normal-weight concrete. Use 10-mm reinforcing steel bars, fy = 275 MPa, f’c = 20.7
MPa and a concrete cover of 20 mm. (U = 1.2DL + 1.6LL)
NOTE: During the substitution of the equivalent digits of your student number, no value given should be equal to total zero (0).
If this occurs, report immediately the concern to your class president.
Example: Given = FE.B (unit), Student Number F,E and B are all ZERO
The section of a solid one-way slab is shown in the figure. The concrete is a normal density concrete with a unit of
2400 kg/m3. The reinforcing steel used has a strength of fy = 276 MPa.
NOTE: During the substitution of the equivalent digits of your student number, no value given should be equal to total zero (0).
If this occurs, report immediately the concern to your class president.
Example: Given = FE.B (unit), Student Number F,E and B are all ZERO
A two-span continuous one-way slab with clear spans of 4.2 meters is supported on beams 300 mm wide. In addition
to its dead weight, the slab carries a live load of 2500 Pa. f’c = 21 MPa and fy = 275 MPa. Unit weight of concrete is
23.5 kN/m3. Determine the minimum depth of slab in mm if deflection is not to be computed.
NOTE: During the substitution of the equivalent digits of your student number, no value given should be equal to
total zero (0). If this occurs, report immediately the concern to your class president.
Example: Given = FE.B (unit), Student Number F,E and B are all ZERO
