INTRODUCTION TO THE TOPIC:

What Are Demographics?

Demographic analysis is the study of a population-based on factors such as

age, race, and sex. Demographic data refers to socioeconomic information
expressed statistically, including employment, education, income, marriage
rates, birth and death rates, and more.

Governments, corporations, and non-government organizations use

demographics to learn more about a population's characteristics for many
purposes, including policy development and economic market research.

For example, a company that sells high-end RVs may want to reach people
nearing or at retirement age and the percentage of those who can afford their
products.

What are demographic data?

Demography is the quantitative study of populations. Demographic data, in

their simplest form, refer to six interacting dimensions:

 Births, deaths, migration (and resulting population growth)

 Age, sex, spatial distribution (and resulting population structure).

What are demographic profile?

Demographic profiling is a form of demographic analysis used by marketers so

that they may be as efficient as possible with advertising products or services
and identifying any possible gaps in their marketing strategy. Demographic
profiling can even be referred to as a euphemism for industrial espionage. By
targeting certain groups who are more likely to be interested in what is being
sold, a company can efficiently expend advertising resources so that they may
garner the maximum number of sales. This is a more direct tactic than simply
advertising on the basis that anyone is a potential consumer of a product;
while this may be true, it does not capitalise on the increased returns that
more specific marketing will bring. Traditional demographic profiling has been
centered around gathering information on large groups of people in order to
identify common trends. Trends such as, but not limited to: changes in total
population and changes in the composition of the population over a period of
time. These trends could promote change in services to a certain portion of the
population, in people such as, children, elderly, and the working age
population. They can be identified through surveys, in-store purchase
information, census data, and so on. New ways are also in the works of
collecting and using information for Demographic Profiling, Such approaches
that have been used are, target-sampling, quota-sampling, and even door-to-
door screening.

Types of Demographic Information:

For corporate marketing goals, demographic data is collected to build a
customer base profile. The common variables gathered in demographic
research include age, income level, race, employment, location,
homeownership, and level of education. Demographical information makes
certain generalizations about groups to identify customers.

Additional demographic factors include gathering data on preferences,

hobbies, lifestyle, and more. Governmental agencies collect data when
conducting a national census and may use that demographic data to forecast
economic patterns and population growth to better manage resources.

Special Considerations:
Most large companies conduct demographic research to determine how to
market their product or service and best market to the target audience. It is
valuable to know the current customer and where the potential customer may
come from in the future. Demographic trends are also significant since the size
of different demographic group changes over time due to economic, cultural,
and political circumstances.

This information helps the company decide how much capital to allocate to
production and advertising. For example, the aging U.S. population has
specific needs that companies want to anticipate. Each market segment can
be analyze for its consumer spending patterns. Older demographic groups
spend more on healthcare products and pharmaceuticals, and communicating
with these customers differs from that of their younger counterparts.
OBJECTIVE:-

TO STUDY ABOUT THE DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE OF STUDENTS :

IMPORTANCE OF STUDY ABOUT DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE :-

 Demography is widely used for various purposes and can encompass
small, targeted populations or mass populations. Governments use
demography for political observations, scientists use demography for
research purposes, and businesses use demography for the purpose of
advertising

 Demographic information allows you to better understand certain

background characteristics of an audience, whether it’s their age, race,
ethnicity, income, work situation, marital status, etc. … You’ll also find
specific sample survey questions and demographic examples that you
can apply in your own questionnaire.

 Demographic information provides data regarding research

participants and is necessary for the determination of whether the
individuals in a particular study are a representative sample of the target
population for generalization purposes.

 Quantitative research samples of populations ideally are collected by

selecting participants randomly from the larger populations. …
Therefore, they collect demographics to inform readers about the
sample of respondents to their survey or about representative hospital
records.

 Demographic analysis is the study of a population-based on factors such

as age, race, and sex. Demographic data refers to socioeconomic
information expressed statistically, including employment, education,
income, marriage rates, birth and death rates, and more.

 Demographic information allows you to better understand certain

background characteristics of an audience, whether it’s their age, race,
ethnicity, income, work situation, marital status, etc.
 Demographic data provides the platform and rationale for the
development of educational plans. Furthermore, proper demographic
data analysis, to a large extent, determines the potential demand for
education and also the nature and type of education to be provided.

 Demographics are a key part of your small business marketing strategy.

Demographics help you identify the individual members of your
audience by key characteristics, wants and needs. Demographics
explain who makes up your audience and help you to segment your
customers by individual characteristics and needs.

 Demographic data is statistical data collected about the characteristics

of the population, e.g. age, gender and income for example. It is usually
used to research a product or service and how well it is selling, who likes
it and/or in what areas it is most popular.

 There are many methods for how to visualize demographic data well
such as:
Colour coding,
Pie charts,
Bar charts,
Line charts.
