Lesson 4: Panangpaneknek (Verification)
Attractive or Referent Power As I can Recall, our professor in Physical Education
possess these kind of personality that she has the ability
to connect with her students, Every time in our class, she
creates a sort of maternal atmosphere that when it is our
period on her, she maintains our level of interest ensbling
us to focus more on the period.
Expert Power If we were talking about expertise and mastery of
subjects, as I can remember in my entire school life,
ProfEd teachers possess this kind of power. They have
ample amount of knowledge and what more interesting is
they did not just memorized it but they know how to
enable us students understand the essence of what they
taught.
Reward Power Reward is a great motivation in learning. It is also a way
of telling learners indirectly that they did a great job. As
I can remember, one Prof Ed teacher that I undergoes
uses this kind of power. I remember last time that it was
every first period every afternoon, after every successful
recitation we were given wafer sticks, I know it is just
simple but it has a great impact on us as a student.
Coercive Power I experience this coercive power from our teacher in
EPP. Of all teachers she is the only teacher that I know
who is very authoritative. One time, we were gardening
for about 30 minutes and I was assigned to hold the 2
week old sprouts, and I just held it for 3 minutes, then
suddenly she got angry. She told me that it would fie if I
hold it that long, so as my punishment she did not let me
enter her classroom while they are discussing killing the
time for the next subject.
Position or Legitimate Power This kind of power was very normal in schools. It is our
art class that time, and then someone was discussing.
And suddenly, one of my classmates butted in then the
professor got annoyed by the behavior of my classmate.
So, he scolded my classmate and said “respect the one
who is speaking” and then he followed up his statement
with another statement saying “Kung sa loob ng apat na
sulok na ito, ako ang masusunod dahil ako ang
nagtuturo, pero pag nasa labas tayo ng room kahit
makipaglandian kayo saakin”. And then he inhaled
deeply and state again “ Pasensya na, Ganon talaga we
have a barrier pag dating sa loob ng klase, you need to
respect the teacher, respect the one who is talking”. At
that kind of situation that I remembered it is very
suitable for this power.
