EXPERIMENT 07

SIMULATION OF SHELL AND TUBE HEAT EXCHANCHER

AIM: To simulate HEAT EXCHANCHER (COUNTER-CURRENT) a with input and output stream in the
simulation panel in the DWSIM environment.

APPARATUS: DWSIM Open-Source Software

THEORY: DWSIM is an open-source, CAPE-OPEN compliant chemical process simulator for Windows,
Linux, and macOS systems. Written in VB.NET and C#, DWSIM features a comprehensive set of unit
operations, advanced thermodynamic models, support for reacting systems, petroleum characterization
tools, and a fully-featured graphical interface.

PROCEDURE:

1. Open DWSIM and load New Chemical Process Model

2. Select suitable compounds for simulation. Here we have selected Methanol
and Water for our simulation.

3. Click next and select any suitable Property package from the dropdown list.

4. Here we have selected Raoult’s Law Model for our simulation.

5. Click next and select the appropriate unit system for the model. Here we haveformed a
custom unit set C5 for our convenience.

6. Click Finish.

7. On the simulation Panel, click and Drag the Blue arrowed material Stream onthe empty
window. Thus, a Material Stream named Methanol-in is created input all the data as shown in
below picture.

8. Similarly, create another material stream and name it as Water-in & input all the data as show
in bellow picture.

9. Now take the heat-exchange from exchanger tab. after that connect all the material stream show
in diagram as well as in data, & input all the data show in bellow picture.

12. Now insert the mater-table & observe the table

RESULT

 By this simulation we seen perfect heat-transfer between methanol & water with 80.46% efficiency
using SHELL AND TUBE HEAT EXCHANCHANGER.

CONCLUSION

 By using tools of DWSIM software, we simulated shell and tube heat exchanger by defining
parameters.
