Pictograph
When we collect some information, the information gathered is called a data.
Pictograph is a type of graph in which we use pictures or symbols to represent
data.
Eg1. The following pictograph shows the number of boxes of oranges sold by a
fruit seller during four weeks of a month

Read the pictograph and answer the following questions:


a. How many boxes of oranges did he sell in the 1st week?
Ans. 9
b. How many boxes of oranges did he sell in the 3rd week?
Ans. 8
c. In which two weeks, and equal number of boxes of oranges were sold?
Ans 2nd and 3rd week
d. How many total boxes of oranges did he sell in four weeks?
Ans. 9+8+8+6=31
e. In which week was the sale of oranges minimum?
Ans. 4th week
Eg2. The table below shows the number of children in a school who play
different sports.

Represent this data in a pictograph.

2) The following pictograph shows the information about the amount of


rainfall in centimetres in a city in 5 months of a year
Read the pictograph and answer the following questions.
a) How much did it rain in august?
b) How much did it rain in June?
c) Which month had maximum rain?
d) Which month had least rain?
e) How much did it rain in given 5 months?
