Topic: • Repeated Addition

Introduction • Mrs. Anderson’s Second Grade Class
Length of Lesson: • Around 45 – 50 minutes
TEK(S): • (2.6) Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process
standards to connect repeated addition and subtraction to
multiplication and division situations that involve equal groupings and
shares. The student is expected to:
• (A) model, create, and describe contextual multiplication situations in
which equivalent sets of concrete objects are joined

Instructional • The student will be able to model contextual multiplication situations in

Objective: which equivalent sets of concrete objects are joined.

Learning Target • I can model and describe multiplication situations.

Resources/ Materials: • Laptop

• The Class White Board
• Projector
• Candy
• Dry Erase Markers
• Independent Practice Papers
• Student iPad
• Pencils
• Planners

How will you introduce • I will be introducing the learning target to the students while they bring
your lesson? out their planners and copy it down in their planners.
• Then the class and I will make an example question that involves the
students to give small portions to create a multiplication problem that
can be solved together.

What is your • I will start by showing the students part of a BrainPOP video to start
instructional delivery them off and then I will put examples on the board. The first problem
method? the students will help me to find the solution. If necessary, I can inform
the students of the next step.

Guided Practice • There will be a few practice problems shown on the board and a student
will walk up to the board and show how they would solve the problem
for the other students to watch and learn how it can be done.

Closure • I will be asking the students who can recite the learning target without
opening their planners.

• Then if there is time, I will ask students to name something new they
learned today.

Independent Practice • Students will all have a worksheet in front of them that will be taken up
from me or the field site teacher.

Formal Assessment • Students will play a game of Kahoot where they will read world
(This does not have to problems and practice modeling and describing multiplication
be a quiz) statements.
• Students are to take the knowledge they learned and practice.
