There are

three parts to this question— part (a), part (b) and part (c), which must
all be answered:

Part (a)-Identify the key lessons that athletes in the Caribbean can learn from the
following three decisions:

-CAS 2017/A/49984 Nesta Carter v International Olympic Committee

-CAS 2019/A/6637 Njisane Phillip v. Panam Sports Organisation  and

-SR/Adhocsport/272/2019    IAAF v Michelle Lee Ahye

Your response should include a brief summary of the main facts and an overview of
the key legal arguments raised in each of the three decisions. Your response should be
no more than 1500 words. [15%]

Part (b)-In February 2022, FIFA, announced a ban of the Russian football team from
competing in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, following the incursion of the Russian
military into Ukrainian territory. The Russian Football Union has since appealed the ban
to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.  Critically analyse the view, justifying your response
with appropriate support, that there are no legal bases under FIFA statutes to support its
ban of the Russian football team. Your response should be no more than 1000
words. [10%]

Part (c)- World Athletics President and former Olympic middle distance medalist for
Great Britain, Lord Sebastian Coe is quoted as saying: "I think that the integrity of
women's sport if we don't get this right, and actually the future of women's sport, is very
fragile," in response to Lia Thomas, becoming the first known transgender athlete to win
the highest US national college title in the women’s 500-yard free style. Discuss the view
that the amendment of sporting rules to permit transgender athletes to compete within
the female classification of a sport, presents an unfair advantage in favour of those
athletes. Justify your response using appropriate support. Your response should be no
more than 800 words. [5%]
