Four 2020 Healthcare Predictions For Asia-Pacific

1
DRIVING POPULATION HEALTH
Asia will further leverage data and analytics to improve public health by starting to
take population data analysis down to the individual level with personalised results
and outcomes. Data sharing will be enhanced by collaboration between the public
and private sectors. Singapore is likely to lead such innovations as it pursues its
long-term healthcare promotion strategy.

2
INVESTORS WILL LOOK BEYOND HOSPITALS
Investor focus will expand to include new categories of assets in out-of-hospital
care. The resulting deals will be smaller but more numerous, as companies build
networks of such care facilities and tech-enabled healthcare platforms in both
mature and emerging markets alike.

THE FOCUS OF UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGES SHIFTS TOWARDS

3
IMPROVING SYSTEMS AND OPERATIONS
Government efforts will shift from big political moves in universal health coverage
to putting ideas into action. Governments will start to double down on digital
solutions and technology to overcome systemic barriers and enhance operations.
We expect small steps on the long journey to expand and improve universal health
coverage in Asia.

4
PAYOR-PROVIDER RELATIONSHIPS WILL DEEPEN
Payor-provider relationships will deepen as healthcare moves away from traditional
fee-for-service models. Insurers in Asia are unlikely to enter care services directly,
but we can expect new modes of collaboration in areas such as telehealth that can
help to manage patients’ health.
