Re-design Document Analysis

In this section I analyze the purpose of the re-designed document and the integrated principles of design.

Purpose
The re-designed document suits the rhetorical situation as it breaks down the material as a way of
keeping audiences visually engaged. The document also incorporates principles of design to
appropriately organize the information and show its relation to the overall message and tone. Additionally,
the composition includes images that will enhance the audience’s comprehension of the matter along with
visualizing events and philosophers.

Principles of design
The improved document contains several principles of design such as contrast, repetition, alignment, and
proximity. The re-designed essay includes the principles of contrast and repetition through its
subheadings. Subheading A is in size 14 and its font color is blue; I repeated this contrasting element to
differentiate each section’s topic along with its correlation to the conveyed message. Meanwhile,
subheading B is italicized to differentiate subtopics within each section. The incorporation of differentiation
between subheadings demonstrates the principles of contrast and repetition to create an appealing
design. The document also includes a strong vertical alignment that is prominent throughout. Lastly,
proximity is incorporated on the document with the usage of images. Figure 1 is located on the top of the
page to show its relationship to the title and introduction. While, figure 2 and figure 3 are located on the
flush right corner of its designated passages.

One-Pager Design Analysis

In this section I analyze the design of the one-pager document, along with its accomplished purpose, and
the incorporated principles of design.

Design and purpose

The design of the one-pager was essential to determine how it will captivate the attention of readers.
Even though I wanted something visually appealing, I did not want to overwhelm my audience with too
much color. Therefore, I established the design by using a neutral color scheme to embrace the message
of neutrality demonstrated on the re-designed document. I added a free-to-use image of a blurred woman
looking into a lens to support the theme of the essay. Additionally, I used the free-to-use image of a statue
of a man thinking to promote the opposing theme of men, most specifically within male philosophers, the
objectification of women in society. The one-pager design appropriately accomplishes its purpose by
advertising the essay to its target audience without revealing too much over the content.

Principles of Design
The one-pager encompasses the principles of design by its usage of contrast, repetition, alignment, and
proximity. The usage of contrast is exhibited on the top half of the document in which there is a bold
brown line between the image to title the advertisement. Repetition is demonstrated on the advertisement
through the typefaces and the usage of the brown strip on the upper half of the page and the bottom half
of the page. The one-pager also consists of a strong vertical left alignment of the title, paragraph, and
posted date. Proximity is displayed on the one-pager with the location of the images and related text.
