AmoMax®-10 RS

Highly Active Pre-Reduced Catalyst for Ammonia Synthesis

AmoMax® 10RS is a highly active wustite-based ammonia synthesis catalyst, which
is manufactured by reduction and subsequent stabilization of oxidic AmoMax 10.
Pre-reduction not only shortens start-up time, but also decreases the formation of
reduction water during activation.
AmoMax 10RS is non-pyrophoric at ambient temperatures and can be easily
handled and loaded following our operating constructions.
As with the oxidic form, AmoMax 10RS offers outstanding activity – much higher
than magnetite-based ammonia synthesis catalysts. This significantly increases
ammonia yields and lowers costs, making AmoMax 10RS the optimal choice for the
fertilizer industry.

AmoMax®-10
Conventional ammonia synthesis catalysts are made of magnetite (Fe3O4) with a
number of structural and electronic promoters. However, Süd-Chemie now is
manufacturing an ammonia synthesis catalyst on the basis of a nonstoichiometric
ferrous oxide, so-called wustite (Fe1-xO). Wustite has a cubic crystal structure
compared to the spinel-like structure of magnetite. This allows to provide a catalyst
with an improved pore structure, higher surface area and better mechanical
strength. The designation of the novel catalyst is AmoMax10. The catalyst is
supplied in its oxidic form and is also available as pre-reduced and stabilized in air.
