1. Text-to-Text:
What I just read reminds me of a BL Manhua (Chinese manga) titled
“10 Years That I Loved You the Most” by Wu Yi Ning Si because
both stories contained a theme of affair. Lewis, the main protagonist of
the said Manhua, is somewhat similar to Dolly in terms of having an
unfaithful partner whom they still forgave even after they learned this
fact. Ivan is another character who can be compare to a character in the
novel, and that is Vronsky. Both characters fell in love with someone
(Anna; Lewis) despite knowing that they already had a partner. Anna
and Lewis are also similar in the way that they decided to leave their
partner in order to be with the man (Vronsky; Ivan) that fell in love with
them. Although unlike Anna who truly loved Vronsky back, it was vague whether Lewis did
reciprocate Ivan’s feelings. In the end, both Anna and Lewis shared the same fate of death, Anna
took her own life by throwing herself under the train while Lewis died from Leukemia.
2. Text-to-Self:
I don’t agree with what I just read because in my own life, I think I would choose to be with my
husband who can provide me and my child the financial needs that we need rather than to be
with someone who loves me but makes me uncertain regarding the stability of my life with him.
Unlike Anna, I think I’m the kind of person who will prioritize my material needs instead of
satisfying my crave for affection because love for me is just a temporary feeling, and I’m also
quick to move on. Thus, even if I do love another man who loves me back, I would just think
that this feeling will soon fade so it’s not worth it to risk what I have now for a path that is full of
backlash and uncertainties for me.
3. Text-to-World:
What I just read makes me think about the common double standard on women about having
multiple sexual partners. If a man slept with multiple women, then he’s a stud, but if a woman
slept with multiple men, then she’s a slut. This double standard makes me wonder how did
people from the past came out with this idea. There’s not much of a difference between the two
gender aside from their reproductive organs, so what do they see in women that they think is
inferior. I’m not sure if this double standard among women still exists, hopefully not but if it
does then we have to change our ways of thinking. Our technology shouldn’t be the only one
progressing but also our mind and the way we put our judgment in the society. Judging people
should be based on “who” they are as a person and not “what” they are wherein “what” pertains
to race, gender, religion and any other classification.
