using a table to get the initial idea of the students
on the synonyms of dependent and independent
variables.

There are many situations around you that show functional


relationships between variables or quantities so that one
variable or quantity depends upon the other.

Ex.
The perimeter of a square
𝑠 = 3 𝑐𝑚 depends on the length of its side.
As the side of the square
𝑃 = 4(3 𝑐𝑚) = 12 𝑐𝑚 increases, the perimeter also

P=4s 𝑠 = 5 𝑐𝑚
increases. The example shows a
one-to-one correspondence
between the side and the

earnings in a month are related to the number of days of work. During this pandemic time he
only work 15 days a month. How much will he earn if he work only 15 days in a month?

I guess it’s ₱ 4,500.00. It depends on when there is no COVID-19 yet,
the number of days he work. how much he earned in 30 days?

It’s ₱ 9,000.

variable because any value could be assigned to it. However, the variable y is the dependent variable
because its value depends on the value of x .
Variables may be dependent or independent. Dependent variable depends on the independent
variable while the independent variable controls the dependent variables.

Independent variable: Supply and demand
Dependent variable price of a product
 We consider Supply and demand as an independent variable because it controls the price of a
product.

For example, we have a shortage of supply and a huge of demands in pork, that’s why the price of
the pork increase.
