1st YOUTHLED CIVIC EDUCATION SUMMIT

The Youth Leadership for Democracy (YouthLed), a five-year program


being implemented by The Asia Foundation and the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID), will conduct its 1st Civic Education
Summit, entitled “Emerging Knowledge, Practices, and Opportunities” on
April 28-29, 2022, 8:00 AM – 12:00 NN at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Ortigas,
Quezon City. The event will also be live streamed via Zoom and YouthLed PH’s
Facebook page (https://facebook.com/YouthLedPH).

The summit aims to increase civic engagement among youth to strengthen


their participation in democratic governance. It is the first in a series of annual
forums that will gather teachers, civic education stakeholders, and students, to
elevate the discourse and understanding of civic education in the country. It will
highlight exhaustive civic education research that is being undertaken through
YouthLed’s civic education program, showcase best practices for civic education
research, and engage stakeholders from the government, academe, civil society,
and the private sector in a discussion on the enhancement and direction of civic
education in the country.

In this light, the Office of Curriculum and Instruction would like to request
fifty (50) Social Studies/ Araling Panlipunan teachers to physically attend the
summit. The participants may register through bit.ly/YLCESRSVP2022 not
later than April 27, 2022, 5:00 PM. The travel costs of the attending
participants can be reimbursed during Day 1, April 28, 2022 at the venue. It is
advised to keep Official Receipts or any available documentation (e.g.
acknowledgment receipt, photo of taxi meter, etc.) to substantiate the costs.

Further, this Office also invites Junior and Senior High School students,
teachers, and all Supreme Student Government Officers to virtually participate
in the said event. The participants may register through bit.ly/YLCES2022 not
later than April 27, 2022, 9:00 PM. Moreover, the concerned are requested to
support and assist the participants (including the acquirement of
parent/guardian consent) in the entire summit.
