ACTIVITY NO.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORGANIC AND INORGANIC COMPOUNDS
OBJECTIVE:
At the end of the exercise, the students should be able to:
1. Define organic and inorganic compounds.
2. Differentiate organic and inorganic compounds.
MATERIALS  REAGENTS

Test tubes   NaCl granules

Evaporating dish   Iodine granules
Match/ igniter   Benzoic acid granules
Bunsen burner   Aniline
Wire gauze  Distilled water
Ethanol
HCl
NaOH
Hexane
Sugar crystal

PROCEDURE:
A. Solubility
1. Prepare four (4) clean test tubes and label each with the samples to be used namely NaCl, I , 2

Benzoic acid, and Aniline.

2. Place a pinch of the sample in their respective test tubes.
3. To each test tube add approximately 5 mL of distilled water.
4. Shake the test tube and observe.
5. Repeat the above procedure using the other solvents.

B. Flammability
1. Place approximately 5 mL distilled water in an evaporating dish. Ignite a match and place it  in
the evaporating dish.
2. Observe the result
3. Repeat with ethanol

C. Combustibility
1. In a clean evaporating dish, place approximately 1 g sugar crystals.
2. Place the evaporating dish over a Bunsen burner.
3. Ignite the sample and observe.
4. Repeat using NaCl crystals.
