The information in the table lists some of the films starring Kevin Spacey and the year in which they were made. The last column displays
the gross earnings for each film in US$.
Tasks
b. Make Column A 60 pixels wide and align left. Column B should be 250 pixels wide and aligned left.
Column C should be 100 pixels wide and aligned right.
c. Place the cursor in Cell C15 (leaving a spacer row beneath the data). Click on the ‘AutoSum’ icon in the
toolbar. Select the range C2:C13 the press the ‘Enter’ key. This will calculate the total gross earnings for all of Kevin’s movies.
d. Place the cursor in Cell C16. Click on ‘Insert’ in the main menu and select ‘Function’. Look for and select
‘Average’ (it can be found under the ‘Statistical’ menu). Click ‘OK’. Click anywhere on the grey area of the box and drag it out of
the way of the data in Column C. Select the range C2:C13 the press the ‘Enter’ key.
e. Repeat this task for the highest (use the ‘Max’ function) and lowest (use the ‘Min’ function) earnings for all
of the movies. These calculated values should be placed in cells C17 and C18.
f. Type the sub-headings ‘Total’, ‘Average’, ‘Highest’ and ‘Lowest’ in Cells B15 to B18.
g. Select the range A2:C13. Click on ‘Data’ in the main menu and select ‘Sort’. Choose to sort by ‘Gross
Earnings’ and ‘Descending’.
NOTE. Whenever sorting, you must select complete rows of data. Sorting selected columns or cells will result in the data
being mixed up and rendered useless.
h. Add some colour and formatting to your spreadsheet. Format all ‘earnings’ cells as currency.
