This week, I continued with my normal tasks including working with various different

programs, wrapping up my final project, and shadowing nurses at the Lawrenceville Clinic and

the Newton Clinic. I have been going to the Lawrenceville Clinic for quite some time now, but

this week was only my second time going to the Newton Clinic. During my time at the Newton

Clinic, I shadow a women’s health nurse practitioner. I have been able to see what a day in her

life is like. She is responsible for providing birth control to patients as well as routine visits. It

has been very interesting to shadow her and communicate with the patients. I have been able to

communicate and provide some of the patients with information such as education on how they

can improve their overall health. At the Lawrenceville Clinic I have continued shadowing an RN

there that provides children with immunizations that are required to attend school. At times, this

is a bit more difficult than shadowing the women’s health nurse practitioner. I believe this to be

true because many of the children are scared to receive a vaccine. There have been times that I

have had to help the nurse hold down the child that is screaming and crying so that she can

successfully administer the vaccine.

This week I continued working with my fellow colleagues on my final project. My final

project is a cooking class to improve lives that will take place next week. It has been stressful

trying to make sure that everything with run smoothly on the day of the event. I have been

responsible for communicating with everyone on how many people will attend and what steps

need to be taken next. Additionally, I have learned that it is a bit difficult to work with grant

funds. I have learned this as I am using funds given by the state to put on the event. There are

many steps that must be taken to use the money, but my coworkers have been very helpful in

explaining each step to me. It has been nice and rewarding to know that the people that I work
with feel confident in me planning this event. It has been a lot of work, but I am hopeful that it

will all pay off on the day of the event!
