Why do people get shorter the older they get?

Older adults can get shorter because the cartilage between their joints gets worn out and
osteoporosis causes the spinal column to become shorter, Osteoporosis causes bones to
become weak and fracture, which can also cause a person to become shorter.

Cardiac arrest
Cardiac arrest, sometimes called sudden cardiac arrest, means that your heart suddenly
stops beating. This cuts off blood flow to the brain and other organs. Most cardiac arrests
occur when a diseased heart's electrical system malfunctions. This malfunction causes an
abnormal heart rhythm such as ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation. Some
cardiac arrests are also caused by extreme slowing of the heart's rhythm (bradycardia).

Cardiac tamponade
In this condition, blood or fluid collects in the sac surrounding the heart. This prevents the
heart ventricles from expanding fully. The excess pressure from the fluid prevents the heart
from working properly. As a result, the body does not get enough blood. Cardiac tamponade
can occur due to: 1. Dissecting aortic aneurysm (thoracic) 2. End-stage lung cancer

Pneumothorax
A pneumothorax is a collapsed lung. A pneumothorax occurs when air leaks into the space
between your lung and chest wall. This air pushes on the outside of your lung and makes it
collapse. A pneumothorax can be a complete lung collapse or a collapse of only a portion of
the lung.

Flail chest
Occurs when a segment of the rib cage breaks due to trauma and becomes detached from
the chest wall

Pericardial effusion
Pericardial effusion is the buildup of too much fluid in the double-layered, saclike structure
around the heart (pericardium). The space between these layers typically contains a thin
layer of fluid.
