As we all know managers hold a key role in every organization.

They ensure coordination of various


efforts of individuals and unify it towards attaining the objectives of the enterprise. A good manager
should not only prioritize the needs of the company but also satisfy the needs of its employees for
smoother functioning and easier attainment of organizational objectives. The managers at Cipla
follow the aforementioned managerial roles as follows:

1.) Decision Maker: Decision making implies setting objectives in advance by evaluating all
future prospects. -In order to ease the decision making, Cipla’s mangers links its production
machines with real time feedback to ease its production process due to constantly changing
demand. -In 2018 Cipla stated its plan to launch one product every following year in US
market. Now currently because of its successful decision, 23% of its global revenue is from
US (in 2020) and has created a $600 million dollar market. It has also announced its plans to
introduce two respiratory drugs consecutively in 2021 and 2022.
2.) Organizing: Organizing function implies the role of a manager to coordinate both human and
financial resources in the most efficient manner with minimum wastage. -Cipla follows and
efficient organizational hierarchy and ensures clarity in working relationships. -The
Departments in Cipla are organized in accordance to their functions such as HR, Marketing,
R&D, etc. Thus, allowing smoother functioning.
3.) Staffing: Staffing involves hiring the ‘right person for the right job’. It includes training and
development. The staff at Cipla are highly skilled and are diverse.- Cipla’s managers believe
in continuous learning and has dedicated training and development centre called Cipla
University. -They allow their employees and associates to further enhance their skills in
order to meet the dynamic environment.
4.) Monitoring: In simple terms monitoring means ensuring organizational activities are
performed in accordance to plans. It also includes setting performance standards and
ensuring it is followed. -Cipla’s managers too follows a quality management system known
as ‘Cipla Quality’. -During the production process strict production control measures are
maintained. It aims to achieve zero defects. -Its quality control systems meet and exceed the
requirements of US FDA, WHO, MHRA, etc.
5.) Leading: By performing this function it brings motivation to the employees on what is
expected of them. Thus, initiating action. -Employees at Cipla are given clear guidelines as to
the work required by them along with clear understanding of organizational hierarchy. -
According to studies 75% of employees are satisfied with the salary thus creating motivation
and incentive to work. -Also 70.8% of employees finds the work culture satisfying. Only a
satisfied workforce can be competent.
