Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with (be
specific about the purpose and your role):
I attended an in-person Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course. The purpose of this
dangerous cardiac rhythm or when resumption of normal sinus rhythm is not achieved with chest
compressions and rescue breathing. My role was to gain skills and knowledge about
pharmacologic and mechanical interventions that can be provided at the patient’s bedside to be
Where was this held and what was was program/activity length?
The ACLS course was held at Eclipse CPR and required pre-reading and quizzes to be
completed before class. The in-person, hands on portion of class was eight hours long.
Since an ACLS certification is a requirement to work on the unit I was hired on, this experience
was a great way to prepare for the ICU setting and give me confidence starting on my first day. It
can take up to weeks/months for employees to get into an open ACLS class at the hospital I was
hired into, so I have reassurance before walking into my first shift that I have some background
the ICU and this experience will allow me to add value to the healthcare teams I will be working
with.
How will you continue to use this experience throughout your nursing career?
me a better understand on more drugs that I will see regardless of the unit I may work on at a
hospital. In acute acre nursing it is important to be very familiar and comfortable with EKG
rhythms and this course covered them in depth and gave great additional practice to reenforce
key identifying rhythm features for the future. Both will be skill sets I will use daily in the
CVICU setting and going forward as a nurse working in any unit in a hospital.
Would you recommend this specific community/professional experience in the future? Why or
why not? (Describe)
I would recommend Eclipse CRP training to others as well as use them again myself if needed.
The owner who taught my class was efficient and made the class lighthearted and easy to follow.
He gave us exactly what we needed to be successful on the exam and also provided us with some
real-life experiences. I have taken classes from this instructor for BLS and now ACLS and can
attest to his knowledge of the content provided by the American Heart Association. The course is
educational for all levels of knowledge from doctors to EMTs and will academically challenge
