COURSE SYLLABIUS
Course title: Human Resource Management
Course code: MGT-F225
Credit Hours: 3 Hours
Prerequisites: None
Course Descriptions
This course examines the policies and practices used by human resource management
staff to build and maintain an effective work force. Topics include human resource
planning, job analysis and job design, recruitment, selection, employee training
performance appraisal, manpower development, compensation, and labor relations.
Course Goals
Once completion of the course, students will be able to
 define human resource management and the key functions as they relate to the
human resource (HR) department and organizational goals;
 outline the phases of the human resources planning process and identify tools that
can be used in this process;
 describe job design and job analysis, methods of recruitment, and government
legislation that impact HR decisions;
 evaluate strategies for promoting and/or transferring employees, performance
appraisal, and wage and salary packages;
 examine methods and concerns in determining an organization's training and
development, sources of occupational safety, and health and strategies for
improving them in the work environment; and
 analyze the concept of employee rights, unionized labor, its nature, structure,
distribution, and effects on employees and employers.

Unit - 1 : Introduction to Human Resource Management
OBJECTIVES
After studying this unit, you will be able to:
 Understand the basic concepts of human resource management (HRM).
 Explain what human resource management is and how it relates to the management
process.
 Provide an overview of functions of HRM.
 Describe how the major roles of HR management are being transformed.
 Explain the role of HRM in the present millennium.
