ON PERSUADING COSTUMERS

The informant A said that one of their strategies to persuade and influenced their

customer to buy their empanada is to give the customer a smile and persuade them by

saying that their empanada is delicious. Informant A stated the one sayings of Vigan

City; “haan ka nga naggapo ti Vigan nu haan mo maramanan ti empanada”.

Informant B stated that they must entertained their customer with a wide smile in

their face. While informant C way of persuading their customers is through sales talking;

“empanada Ma’am, okoy Ma’am. Umay kayo gumatang, naimas”.

Informant D said that through the cleanliness of their area, through their beautiful

smile, good services and proper and good serving to the customers. The informant E is

through saying that their empanada is delicious. The informant F said that as the

customer saw their empanada in a clean and order serving, they’re being persuaded.

ON MARKETING STRATEGIES

The informant A stated that the one that questioned by tourist is the orange

empanada. The orange empanada has a big difference from their own empanada. First

is the color of the empanada, here in Vigan City, they are using the pure color of

achuete but in the other province, they mostly using a food coloring as the result of the

orange empanada. Second is the dough, here, they are using the rice while others are

the flour. Lastly, they are using papaya in terms in seasons as the filling and other

empanadahan is mostly using toge or the monggo seed.


The informant B stated that in Plaza Burgos, they are selling their empanada by

suki. So if they are good in marketing their empanada or entertained the customer in a

good way, the costumer will not leave or reject their empanada they are selling their

special empanada with accost of 35 pesos and the ordinary empanada is 10 pesos per

piece. By that they will come and try their delicious empanada. They said that there are

differences of their empanada to the empanada of Laoag. When they compare their

empanada to the empanada of Laoag they found out that here in Vigan, they are using

rice and achuete while in Laoag, they are using flour and food coloring. Despite of their

delicious empanada there are also those time that they are hard up in selling most

especially if it is rainy season.

The informant C indicates that sometimes it’s easy and hard to sell their

empanada because it depends when there are many or few of their customers. She

also added that there are also difference of their empanada to the others but she

mentioned that she is the antique and believed that the taste of the empanada depends

on how it is being cook. Lola Tina added that because of their business, she sustained

the needs of her siblings and they are all already graduated.

The informant D’s everyday strategies in marketing their empanada, they are always

doing a strategies to persuade their customers. Plenty of students going to their

empanadahan during Monday to Friday. Sometimes there are only few of tourist going
buy their empanada but during Saturday, there are a lot of tourists going there. There is

a difference of their empanada to the other empanadahan and that is the cover or the

outer layer. With the use of rice as the cover while the others are food coloring and a

flour. The filling of their empanada is not made up of monggo but the others are using it.

According also Ma’am Rean Bilaban, their business is already successful because they

are considered as one of the successful empanadahan here in Vigan City. Their

successful story was once aired in the Bombo Radio. Her mother is the one who started

until such time that she became old and Ma’am Rean take charge the position. By this

empanada business, it helps her a lot for her siblings to finished their studies and

become a successful seaman, teacher, and also an accountant and now, they have

their own sons and daughters. Her eldest child graduated in computer and HRM

courses and went abroad for two years as a HRM. Her youngest child is still studying at

Divine World College of Vigan as a Grade 10 student. There’s some instances that they

have extra sales, I give some money to my nephews. She thank God because of their

business it helps them a lot.

The informant E marketing strategies are through cooking the empanada in a

delicious masterpiece so that customers will be willing to buy and try their empanada

and believed wherever people buy empanada, they are the one who are making the

delicious empanada because they are the original. They are selling their empanada with

the cost of 40 pesos per piece. There is the difference of their empanada to the other is

only the dough which they are using a rice flour while others are the flour.
The informant F have their pricing strategies and the equivalent price of their

empanada are based on the categories; special empanada with cost of 40 pesos,

regular empanada for 10 pesos, double-double special empanada for 60 pesos, all

meat special empanada for 50 pesos semi egg empanada for 20 pesos, semi meat

empanada for 20 pesos 2 in 1 empanada for 40 pesos, and super special empanada for
