Background of the Study

Ecotourism's hopeful objective is to improve the world through

dependable travel. In distant regions, vacationers can receive the rewards of
the scope of chances ecotourism offers. The travel industry organizations
should work with networks to expand their improvement openings can
likewise raise assets to keep on ensuring those regions for future
generations. Ecotourism intends to expose visitors to the real factors of the
social and financial environments that surround them. Ecotourism teaches
explorers the benefit of ensuring common regions and assets. It acquaints
voyagers with ideas of maintainability inside nearby networks and
economies.

Neighborhood individuals are additionally taught about manageability

and preservation practices. The concept of eco-tourism revolves around
visiting wonderful places while protecting the environment. It doesn't include
the abuse of a few characteristic assets for unreasonable increases. It offers
a reasonable decision of procuring to the neighborhood individuals from
movement and the travel industry. Increasingly, more open positions are
opening because of the expanding request for lodgings, resorts, and others.
A critical part of the income from ecotourism goes to different protection
projects like reforestation, water executives, normal rearing of vegetation,
and other countries' formative exercises. It likewise helps in fostering the
propensity for wise use of normal assets such as soil, water, and air. It gives
an instructive advantage to outsiders who get a brief look at the assorted
regular and social legacy of an objective. Sound multifaceted cooperation
created with individuals from various foundations can be useful for the
locals. Too many vacationer footfalls in well-known

eco-tourism destinations are causing the annihilation of natural territory.

Sound contamination, advancement of new constructions and other travel
industry exercises regularly bother the annihilation.

Individuals couldn't care less about the bother caused to the birds and
creatures because of their outlandish requests, wishes, and conduct.
Regardless of whether the traveler's witticism is "take only pictures, leave
only impressions," the way all of this is done is not only upsetting but also
harmful to wildlife. Ecotourism may cause a change in the mentality of the
nearby local area. The vacationers are annihilating the legitimacy of the
district. It could cause a water and energy emergency, affecting the
underserved local area the most. Littering of plastics and other non-
biodegradable things in the alleged evaluated Eco-tourist hotels and offices
is a typical scene. It is hard to finish up whether the benefits of Eco-tours
exceed the weaknesses or the other way around. Given the potential for
general advancement through the eco-tourism industry, efforts should be
concentrated on mitigating its drawbacks.

researchers believe that if it is done right, there are more advantages than
disadvantages but if there are people that will take advantage of it, it is hard
to see the advantages and benefits of ecotourism. Another is if the
businesses or companies under that industry conduct some further research
on how they can operate safely without damaging the environment. Last but
not least, see if the companies in that industry can come up with some new,
interesting, and unique items or services that will benefit both the
consumers and productivity of nature while still helping the environment,
local communities, and economies.

Hypothesis

An overview of the hypothesis related to the advantages and

disadvantages of Eco-tourism in Local Businesses.

Ecotourism is a sub-component of the field of economical the travel

industry. Ecotourism's apparent potential as an effective device for
sustainable development is the principal motivation behind why developing
countries are currently accepting and remembering it for their financial turn
of events and preservation systems. Ecotourism, as an alternative tourism,
includes visiting natural areas to learn, to expect, or to complete exercises
harmless to the ecosystem, that is, a travel industry dependent on the
nature experience, which empowers the financial and social improvement of
nearby networks. It centers essentially around encountering and finding out
about nature, its scene, greenery, fauna and their living spaces, just as
social curios from the region. A cooperative and complex connection
between the climate and vacationer exercises is conceivable when this way
of thinking can be converted into fitting strategy, cautious arranging and
careful practicum. Careful arranged and worked ecotourism destinations,

particularly on the off premise and untouched spots, can give direct
advantages that may balance pressure from other less manageable
exercises that utilize common and social assets. Eco the travel industry,
regular assets, social legacy, country way of life and a coordinated the travel
industry is a kind of neighborhood financial exercises. Consequently,
ecotourism in nature and culture regions was completed with various
components in their characteristic scene and social scene (water, vista,
geography, vegetation, clean air), just as in the assortment of sporting
exercises appropriate for a wide range of conditions. Subsequently,
ecotourism and its characteristic resources and crude materials to make, just
as guiding individuals to travel is an alluring power. Ecotourism helps in local
area development by giving the substitute alternative of occupation to
neighborhood local area which is more feasible. Its point is to conserve
resources, particularly natural variety, and keep up feasible utilization of
assets, which bring ecological environment explorers, conserve the
environmental climate and gain economic advantage. With the end goal for
ecotourism to empower examples of maintainability, which can benefit local
businesses, secure the climate, and be financially practical, it should be
complete and represent the complexity of issues that have been referenced
in this paper. However, accomplishing the points in ecotourism relies upon
whether they are environmentally feasible and economically applicable.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

In this chapter the researchers present related literature and studies

that is related to their research study. The researchers collect both foreign
and local literature that supports the Advantage and Disadvantages of
Ecotourism to the Local Businesses.

Local Related Literature

Ecotourism is an important thing to Filipino peoples, as it helps the

economy, the people on the industry, and to help the tourists to calm and
find peace on themselves. Ecotourism had been popular in the Philippines,
as it was composed of more than 7,000 islands. According to G. Aguila and
R. Ragot (2014), the travel industry is perceived by the public authority as a
significant supporter of the age of unfamiliar trade income, ventures,
income, work and to the development of the nation's yield. It has the right
to be a first concern for public advancement due to the accompanying
reasons: it is an incredible and proficient industry; its effect on friendly
advancement is wide and profound; it makes solid fringe benefits; the
Philippines can contend and win; and it helps keeps up social honesty,
fundamental environmental cycles, organic variety, and life emotionally
supportive networks. The travel industry has developed into one of the
world's significant enterprises and has accordingly gotten an inexorably
significant. As far as the economy, we're hoping to broaden wellsprings of
income.

Today, the economy is driven truly by settlements from OFWs—abroad

cash or income into spaces of the country which have in any case been left
unattended and immaculate (F. Roxas 2014). Other than on the Economy's
benefit on our nation, it is weakness cannot be that immovably executed.
Philippines has perpetually adverse depictions of the nation utilized by
unfamiliar media, it harms the entire nation's picture and detracting
numerous vacationers that could influence the nearby and public
organizations in the country. According to M. Cabrestante (2014), The
negative ecological effect of the travel industry on biological systems makes
a requirement for more edified the travel industry models. Benefits
inconveniences remain. As indicated by certain specialists, ecotourism is
limiting the adverse consequences of the travel industry on neighborhood
networks and the climate. If not appropriately checked, the ecotourism
business may not act any better than customary the travel industry.

According to experts at the Ecotourism Philippines webinar (2020),

ecotourism, as an alternative to mass tourism, will rule supreme in the
Philippines' travel industry's post-Covid-19 transition to the new normal.
Hotels and other local operators are going to have to look at what we do in
ecotourism. How they manage to make money with fewer guests, greater
space, more personalized service, and smaller groups (John Robert, 2020)

Based on the research entitled "based on the research entitled

by Ryazan Tristram. The Ecotourism development is positive in terms of; it
provides convenience to the tourists in meeting the needs during the
tourists’ stay and accessibility of the town from the different key places. It is
also an advantage for the local people because the development of
ecotourism would bring a number of tourists that would generate income as
well as jobs for locals in tourism-related establishments.

The negative impact is that environmental nature’s status, natural

resources are starting to run down because of the increasing volume of
tourists. Locals and the tourist are unconsciously harming and exploiting the
natural resources to sustain their needs and wants. Another negative impact
is pollution. An increase in the population also increases the wastes it
produces. Also, the high cost of living is the effect of the high demand for
the needs and unsustainable supply. Because of the rapid growth of the
population in El Nido, prices of basic commodities also heighten up. For that
reason, the locals are much affected. Another reason for the high cost of
living in El Nido is that it is considered a world-class tourist spot.

Base on the research of Tran Ly and Quynh Anh Do (2011),

Ecotourism is another idea in the travel industry of Vietnam, which basically
created since recent years. Notwithstanding, Vietnam’s social and normal
potential for ecotourism is well set up. Over many adjoining nations,
Vietnam enjoys incredible benefits for ecotourism with numerous
picturesque attractions and broadened environment. Among different
objections, Can Gio has arisen as another ecotourism objective with the
exceptional mangrove backwoods, diverse fauna what is more, vegetation
species alongside a decent seashore. Since ecotourism was immediately
evolved in Can Gio, it carried numerous advantages to nearby local area and
indigenous habitat. In any case, it moreover caused various adverse
consequences for normal assets, biology, and neighborhood climate. This
investigation is led to analyze the positive just as the negative natural
effects of ecotourism in Can Gio biosphere hold. The picked theme emerged

executive’s framework. By utilizing the blended technique as information

assortment, the investigation examined both quantitative and subjective
information. The online overview poll technique is utilized to acquire
observational information from the guests and NGOs, visit administrators
who could admittance to web. Besides, the archive investigation strategy is
utilized to get the essential information from earlier writing and public
materials. This postulation examines momentarily about ecotourism and its
present condition in Vietnam. And afterward, it presents Can Gio mangrove
woods as a potential ecotourism objective just as various kinds of the travel
industry exercises in the site. The consequence of study gives a synopsis of
key discoveries and improving suggestions identifying with ecotourism and
ecological effects the board inside the preservation region. The postulation
would be valuable for visit administrators and neighborhood government in
dealing with the travel industry exercises with the goal that it would profit
for both neighborhood economy and normal biology. The possibility of
ecotourism was principally created from the worry of various analysts in
sorting out the unseemly utilization of normal assets made by guests in
various normal objections. From that point forward, improvement
approaches were taken into thought to limit the unfriendly consequences for
neighborhood climate just as improve the social solidarity in nearby
habitants. Ecotourism is considered as fruitful when it decreases the natural
effects of the travel industry pace while benefits for neighborhood local area
socially and financially just as cultivate natural schooling.(LY, 2011)

Ecotourism has for some time been considered as a method for natural
preservation. In any case, neighborhood occupants' aggravations to
biological system were regularly disregarded and deficiently examined. This
paper analyzed whether and what nearby inhabitants' cooperation in
ecotourism meant for their environmental practices by utilizing the overview

technique to address estimation misspecification. The outcomes showed that
various types of ecotourism investment influenced natural practices in an
unexpected way. Choice cooperation welcomed the most grounded and
beneficial outcomes on natural discernment yet neglected to change into real
biological practices. Capital support's effect on biological practices was
positive, direct, and multidimensional. Business investment straightforwardly
decreased power of asset use, however this impact was neutralized by the
expansion of monetary discernment and the opposite impacts it actuated. It
demonstrated the chances and difficulties for ecotourism to understand its
eco-objective, just as the procedures to loosen up the requirements.(Ren,
2021)

According to Michael J. Stone (2012), Ecotourism is one of the

quickest extending the travel industry markets. It has gotten a lot of
consideration in non-industrial nations and monetarily ruined areas all
throughout the planet. Nonetheless, ecotourism can instigate an assortment
of both positive and negative natural, social, and financial effects at an
objective. While there is proof that ecotourism's upheld advantages can be
acknowledged, there are similarly as many, if not more, situations where
ecotourism has missed the mark regarding its proposed targets. To be sure,
ecotourism's effect has been profoundly factor. Simultaneously, some have
scrutinized that there have been moderately scarcely any functional
appraisals of ecotourism's status at explicit objections. Ecotourism is a
confounding term. It is anything but an idea that has its underlying
foundations in the development and change of the travel industry arranging.
It's anything but a term that has been broadly challenged and fervently
discussed (Wall, 1997; Orams, 1995) by students and experts the same. The

and getting a charge out of the landscape and its wild plants and creatures,
just as any current social appearances found around there. The primary
point is that the individual who rehearses ecotourism has the chance of
submerging himself/herself in nature in a way by and large not accessible in
the metropolitan climate.

Based on Anup K. C., Ecotourism helps in natural security, untamed

life protection, destitution easing and financial turn of events. It influences
ecological, social, and monetary segments of the local area and the entire
country. It has various structures which are named by the inclination of the
country. Created just as non-industrial nations, like Nepal, are advancing
ecotourism for feasible advancement of the country. Various approaches are
applied all through the world by various scientists for evaluating ecotourism.
This section centers around survey of ecotourism investigates all through the
world. It adversely affects natural, social, and financial parts of the country.
Because of the great pace of advantageous effects, it is helping in the
general improvement of the local area, country, and the entire world. There
is need of participation among various partners, preparing of ecotourism to
the travel industry business visionaries and fitting administration strategy for
manageable execution of ecotourism projects. Ecotourism is an elective type
of the travel industry which accepts the travel industry in the biophysical
climate in normal regions. It fuses environmentally manageable exercises,
preservation supporting measures and association of nearby networks. Its
neoliberalists nature and spotlights on entrepreneur improvement, local area
advancement, neediness easing, untamed life preservation and ecological

Ecotourism an affects the nearby climate, economy, culture, and

society. In any case, native networks living close to the ensured region
where ecotourism is polished probably will not get any advantages. All things
considered; these networks influenced by the foundation of ensured regions
are confronting human-natural life clashes. It is important to notice the
effects of ecotourism in the native networks and their neighborhood climate.
An investigation was completed in two famous ecotourism objections:
Ghalegaun and Golaghat of Nepal. Information was gathered through family
reviews, key witness interviews, centered gathering conversations, and
other auxiliary sources. Graphical and unmistakable investigation was done
in Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for Social Survey-20. Ecotourism
had upheld the preservation of verdure, the advancement of elective fuel
sources, and the administration of strong waste. It had likewise upgraded
ladies strengthening, institutional help, frameworks of advancement, and
neighborhood culture. An expansion in the travel industry business had
upheld their work. However, there was an increment in the cost of
fundamental products, modernization of youth, and odds of strong waste
administration issues with an expanding number of guests. For the
supportability of ecotourism nearby, compelling administration of waste,
guideline of cost, and inclusion of neighborhood individuals in the travel
industry are significant. Normal examinations on demeanor and impression
of neighborhood individuals towards eco-the travel industry and preservation
ought to be focused on.(C, 2020)

phenomenological technique. Understanding and interpreting the meaning
that participants will answer to the survey is the focus of the
phenomenological approach. The respective group will be accommodated by
conducting an online survey of those who run local businesses. Researchers
will use this approach to determine the benefits and drawbacks of local
enterprises in terms of ecotourism. This online survey uses open-ended
questions to allow respondents to express themselves clearly. The facts and
data we will collect may be useful in coming up with a solution or response
to our investigation.

Population and Sampling Technique

The study utilized clustered sampling to determine the sample of the

study. The respondents of the study are the people who cater to tourists or
the natives of a local tourist site that promotes Ecotourism.

Research Locale
The research will take place in the Philippines. The respondents will be
questioned at their homes or any other comfortable location they choose.
The researchers also used a Google form to collect responses from people
who live in tourist locations that promote ecotourism. The researchers opted

to conduct the poll online since there is a current pandemic, and it would
provide them with the information they need to assess the benefits and
drawbacks of ecotourism for local businesses. The research will take place in
the academic year 2020-2021's third trimester.

Research Instruments and Techniques

One of the data collecting instruments for this study was an online
interview created by the researcher. The owners of local businesses in the
Philippines that promote ecotourism were questioned for the survey. The
URLs to the surveys were given by the researcher which included both open-
ended and closed-ended questions. Questionnaires were largely utilized to
collect data on benefits and drawbacks of Ecotourism to the local businesses.

Data Gathering Procedure

At the outset, the researcher asked permission conduct study and to

administer the questionnaire. Permission granted, then will distribute the
questionnaire to the chosen with the permission of the professor of the
subject. The data gathered, tallied, and statistically treated with the help of

CHAPTER V
MANILA BUSINESS COLLEGE
1671 MBC Bldg., Sta. Cruz Alvarez St, Santa Cruz, Manila, 1003 Metro Manila
www.mbc.edu.ph

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter represents the summary of findings, conclusion, and

recommendations of the study.

Summary of Findings

The local businesses that promote ecotourism help more in building

cultural and environmental awareness. A lot of individuals are still unaware
of how critical it is that we address the global challenges that we may face
soon, to secure the livelihood of many future generations. It is also critical
that we promote public awareness about these vital issues to tackle our
environmental concerns. The second advantage of it is that it encourages a
positive experience for tourists and local business owners as well. If you
participate in ecotourism, you will most likely have a clearer mind than if you
spent your holiday in a way that is damaging to our world. So many are
aware that our usual mode of transportation is extremely harmful to the
environment and that we must adapt to safeguard our world.

Disadvantages First, local businesses that promote ecotourism may

still disturb wildlife to a certain extent. Local animals may not know how to
interact with tourists appropriately and may become distressed, which may
decrease their ecological footprint. Even though ecotourism makes every
effort to minimize its negative influence on the environment, it will still
disturb wildlife at a certain point. The second disadvantage is that it may still
lead to littering. Some people continue to throw their garbage in the open,
which might lead to excessive littering in the long term. As a result, natural
areas may degrade into rubbish dumps, and the natural nature of
ecotourism may be lost entirely. It is unfortunate because, even though
MANILA BUSINESS COLLEGE
1671 MBC Bldg., Sta. Cruz Alvarez St, Santa Cruz, Manila, 1003 Metro Manila
www.mbc.edu.ph

many individuals profess to be eco-tourists and care about the environment,

their behaviors reveal otherwise.

Ecotourism is an ecotourism movement that aims to explore remote

parts of our planet. In generalizations, there are some advantage and
disadvantage to the concept, such as pollution, money exploitation and
sustainable use of natural resources. Ecotourists can also raise awareness on
ecological problems. Ecotourism can help people to escape poverty. As
previously said, ecotourism has numerous benefits and drawbacks. While
ecotourism can certainly help raise public awareness of environmental issues
so that they can be addressed sooner rather than later, it can also cause
more harm than good if it is organized for profit. As a result, governments
around the world should enact legislation to make ecotourism truly
environmentally beneficial, ensuring long-term good environmental
consequences.

Conclusion

Ecotourism is a new form of tourism that promotes local businesses to

tourists and hosts. The outcomes of the research include advantages and
disadvantages for local businesses. Respondents must choose what will meet
their needs to achieve a positive result while choosing their chosen location.
In that factor, it will help to develop and promote ecotourism based on
natural experiences, which enables the economic and social development of
local communities. It helps to involve the local community in the
conservation of the ecology and biodiversity of the area. This biodiversity, in
turn, provides economic incentives to the local community that promotes
sustainable tourism, sustainable tourism and eco-friendly tourism. It also
promotes small and medium-sized tourism enterprises and requires the
lowest possible consumption of natural resources.
MANILA BUSINESS COLLEGE
1671 MBC Bldg., Sta. Cruz Alvarez St, Santa Cruz, Manila, 1003 Metro Manila
www.mbc.edu.ph

Many groups have proposed sets of guidelines or principles for

sustainable tourism. Ecotourism contributes actively to the conservation of
natural and cultural heritage. It includes local communities in planning,
development, and operation activities. The main purpose is to ensure socio-
economic development but also to protect natural and cultural landscape
values. The aim is to create unique visitor experiences with minimal impact
on the area. Ecotourism aims to preserve and utilize natural and cultural
resources in a sustainable way. To achieve these, participative tourism
planning is the multiple and diverse elements essential for ensuring that
communities fulfil their role in ecotourism.

Ecotourism activities which are not performed according to the

purpose cause the disturbance in environmental, economic, and socio-
cultural fields due to over-intensification. There is a need to implement
development plans and manage natural resources in a way that ensures
ecological and environmental integrity. The role of local governments in
tackling sustainable tourism development has been challenged. Many have
debated what role local governments should play, but few have investigated
the tasks and obligations of local governments. Sustainable tourism concepts
are well-known in local government, but they are difficult to implement in
practice. In the modern world, achieving long-term tourism development is a
huge challenge. Many municipal governments are dealing with long-term
and serious macroeconomic issues.

Recommendation
MANILA BUSINESS COLLEGE
1671 MBC Bldg., Sta. Cruz Alvarez St, Santa Cruz, Manila, 1003 Metro Manila
www.mbc.edu.ph

The researcher recommends that future researchers can be helped by

these recommendations to gather data and information about sustaining
ecotourism in local businesses and to be familiarize with the advantages and
disadvantages of ecotourism in local business sector by implementing
seminars about sustaining environment.

Second is to have local protocols to maintain the beauty of natural resources so

Department of Agriculture and DENR who are in charge in agriculture must provide
rules and regulation nor protocols for people take part of, to follow and starts to
care for the environment we are living. Also, advertising list of advice and things to
do and make changes in the society while still sustaining the natural habitats in
local community.
