the first largest waste to energy plant in Sri Lanka
Survey and data analysis for implementation of the first geospatial data analysis project to
help improve the agricultural advancement in Sri Lanka

Research:
Chemical and biochemical analysis and optimization of the anaerobic digestion unit of the
first largest waste to energy plant in Sri Lanka which included following studies;
1. Chemical analysis of municipal organic solid waste in Sri Lanka to be used in the
anaerobic digestion unit (capacity 140 MT/day) of the waste to energy plant
2. Analysis of methane production potential of municipal organic solid waste
3. Pilot scale study of bio-gas production from municipal organic solid waste through
anaerobic digestion of organic matter
4. Identification of suitable microorganisms for production of liquid bio-fertilizer from the
digestate remaining after anaerobic digestion
5. Comparative studies of using bio-fertilizer over chemical fertilizer in agriculture

Internship at Ceylon Cold Stores PLC, under the Departments of Quality Assurance
and Research and Development ((November 2014 to April 2015)
Duties:
Developing new ice cream flavours (one of the three products which have been developed, is
now in the market as Elephant House Watalappan Ice Cream)
Research:
Laboratory scale and pilot scale studies on extraction of natural colours (anthocyanin and
chlorophylls) and their applications on food and beverage products which included following
areas;
1. Identification of suitable solvents/solvent systems to extract natural colours from
natural sources
2. Application of natural colours in the production of ice cream and soft drinks
3. Stability studies of natural colours in developed ice cream and soft drinks
4. Feasibility studies on utilization of natural colours for ice cream and soft drinks
