Teacher: Jeck F. Oro

I. OBJECTIVES Quarter 4, Week 3

Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of:

1. The concept of a species,

2. The species as being further classified into a
hierarchical taxonomic system.

Performance Standard: The learners shall be able to:

1. Report (e.g., through a travelogue) on the activities that

communities engage in to protect and conserve
endangered and economically important species.

At the end of the 60-minute lesson, the learners are able to:

a. define what is biodiversity,

b. identify and explain the different levels of Biodiversity;
c. appreciate the importance of biodiversity in maintaining the stability of our
ecosystem.

Competency: S8LT-IVg19

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic/ Lesson: Biodiversity

Biblical Integration: God filled the sky, land, and sea with abundant and diverse
life! 'How many are your works Oh Lord! In wisdom you
have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures'
(Psalm 104:24).

III. PROCEDURES

A. Preliminaries
1. Greetings and Prayer

Good day, learners! How are you doing today?

As we start with our online class, let us offer this time to our Almighty God. Let us
pray.

2. Checking of Attendance

Kindly open your cameras for the class screenshot for attendance. Thank you!

3. Setting of Class Standards

As we start our online class, let us observe the following protocols:

a. Locate yourself in a conducive setting.
b. Mute your microphone when not in use.
c. Click the raise a hand icon to ask a question or recite or use the chat box.
d. Pay attention and cooperate with the class activities.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation

Class, do you see this rainbow? What can you observe in this rainbow? What colors
do you see? Do you think a rainbow could still exist without these different colors?

Based on the questions I have ask, can you guess what is our lesson for today?

2. Reading of Objectives

a. define what is biodiversity,

b. identify and explain the different levels of Biodiversity;
c. appreciate the importance of biodiversity in maintaining the stability of our
ecosystem.
3. Activities

3.1. Activity 1 Watch and Learn!

Group Reporting

Students will be group into 3 they will proceed to their group and choose a
leader, secretary and a reporter. They will watch the video clip and answer the
guided questions after the video clip presented. After answering the guide
question they will report their answer to the class.

Guide questions
1. What is biodiversity and why is it important?
2. What are the threats to biodiversity?
3. As students what can you do to help ensure the survival of species and
the health and integrity of ecological systems?

4. Analysis
Process Questions:
1. What is biodiversity?
2. What are the most abundant taxonomic classifications?
3. In what way does genetic diversity helps in species diversity?
4. How important is an ecosystem?
5. Why is it important to know the importance of biodiversity in maintaining the
stability of our ecosystem?

5. Abstraction

BIODIVERSITY
- Is the variety of life. BIO means “life” and DIVERSITY means “variety”
- Biological diversity

Three main types of BIODIVERSITY

SPECIES DIVERSITY
 Refers to the species richness and evenness of the species abundance.
SPECIES RICHNESS
 Tells you the number of species in an ecosystem.
 If a community has more species, it is said to be more diverse.
EVENNESS OF SPECIES ABUNDANCE
 Refers to the number of individuals of a particular species in a community.
 If the abundance of species is even, it is more diverse.
GENETIC DIVERSITY
 Is the diversity or variability within species, community or assemblage.
ECOSYSTEM DIVERSITY
 Is the variety of different ecosystems within an area.

6. Application

Activity 2 Research It!

Using their previous group students will research on the internet the different
endangered species in our country and their group must propose ways on how the
communities can engage in protecting and conserving different endangered species.
They will be given 10 minutes and after that they will present their answers like
presenting a project proposal.
