QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS

Students' Philosophical Realizations Under The Learning Changes

This section presents the analysis and interpretation of the data gathered from the given survey

forms through social media on the participants that are currently in Junior High School to Senior High

School living (or studying) particularly in (name of place/school). The participants are selected as long

as they’re on the group of the data needed in a random form.

Topics are arranged according to the flow of information and set of specific questions of the

study, which are as follows:

1. How can students attain realizations relating on the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality and

existence?

2. How can philosophical realizations of students improve their being as a human?

3. How do philosophical realizations widen students' capacity to explore thinking?

1. Students attainment of realizations relating on the fundamental nature of knowledge,

reality and existence

In this study, attainment refers to how something has been gotten particularly the philosophical

realizations. In the written interview in the form of survey given to the students electronically through

social media, the themes that emerged are pressure and challenges.

In the first question, the participants, Broad-minded (B), Precise (P), Heavy-hearted (H), Cool (C),

Strong (S), Smart (Sm), Perseverant (Pe), Positive (Po), Honest (H) and Melancholic (M) stated the
factors that provoke them to have realizations under the learning changes, the students’ responses are the

following:

[B]: “Pressure at the same time challenging especially it's E-learning compared to face to face, I feel

pressure only on recitation and examination day, but now I'm pressured all the time, pressure to finish

the activity on time but somehow teaches me to don’t give up.”

[P]: “Challenges in studying"

[H]: “Pag naramdaman ko na parang magive up na ako sa pag aral dahil din sa pagod sa pagtapos ng

mga pinapagawa, madalas, yung mga pagsubok po sa buhay tapos sa pag aaral.” (When I felt like

giving up in studying because of tiredness or after finishing all my tasks, mostly, they’re the life and

school challenges.)

[C]: “While having chill time and study time at the same time, because it is more thought-provoking,

reflecting on the challenges going on.”

[S]: “Yung pressure talaga minsan eh tapos bigla ka nalang matutulala tapos mapapaisip then worth it

kapag nakaisip ka na, tuloy pa rin ang buhay.” (It’s really the pressure sometimes and then you’ll

suddenly get stunned and subsequently think, then it’s worth it if you already had the thoughts, life still

continues going on.)

[Sm]: “It is inevitable to feel pressured but it can be helped as long as it provides good outcome in my

actions.”

[Pe]: “Yung challenges lalo na ngayon na kami na ang nagtuturo sa sarili namin, mapapaisip ka

nalang na walang mangyayari kung di ako magsisimula.” (The challenges specifically now that we are

teaching our own selves, there’ll be a thought that nothing will happen if I won’t start.)

[Po]: “As of now, answering the modules because it’s challenging but also fun at the same time.”
[H]: “To be true, I experience stress in modules but it also challenges me to work harder.”

[M]: “Stressed out, pressured and hard to learn new things because no one is explaining or teaching

me about the lesson because of the pandemic, it’s just me.”

The responses provided by the participants can be represented by codes namely, experience and

academic situation. Experience is defined as the process or fact of personally observing, encountering,

or undergoing something generally as they occur in the course of time: to learn from experience; the

range of human experience (www.dictionary.com) while academic situation pertains to things that relate

to the work done in schools, especially work which involves studying and reasoning rather than practical

or technical skills (www.collinsdictionary.com) wherein it is currently situated in the pandemic time

where mode of changes are applied. One of the participants stated the reasons why life and school

challenges occur through the current experience. There is also one who specifically stated challenges in

studying and another one who described the flow of manner how reflection occurred through the

experiences. 3 out of 10 participants described what challenges they have and their experiences on it on

how it affects their actions such as working harder, having encouraging thoughts and having fun of it.

Also, there are two participants who explained how pressure changes from the past situation into today’s

situation. On the other hand, the other two participants stated how pressure gave results in their actions

in a positive way. It can be inferred that 6 out of 10 participants responded mainly referring to

challenges where mostly stated positive effects, therefore 6 out of 10 participants befall on experience

code. According to Moeller (2013), humans also are incredibly resilient in adapting to negative

events and hardships. Therefore, how much hard a situation is, the human nature tends to learn to adapt

and create sense of creativity in managing the situations. The other four participants are under the

pressure of coping up wherein their responses stated what pressure causes them in handling abilities to

have a sense of appreciation amidst the hardship wherein some aren’t fully aware but developing. These
4 participants befall under the academic situation which is the source of pressure yet also the cause of

positive outcomes.

A second question is presented to them which mainly digs the philosophical realizations they

attained. The participants, Broad-minded (B), Precise (P), Heavy-hearted (Hh), Cool (C), Strong(S),

Smart(Sm), Perseverant(Pe), Positive(Po), Honest(H) and Melancholic (M) stated their realizations

regarding the mentioned causes above which are as follows:

[B]: “I realize how hard is the setup of learning now, too much pressure for students sometimes lack of

sleep to finish the modules, gives stress to students, but how hard this setup is, I need to study for my

future even it's hard, it's okay compared to the sacrifices of my parents for me to study.”

[P]: “I'd realized that this new mode of learning is somewhat difficult. Hence, it aims to continue the

transfer of knowledge in times of pandemic. We had an individual capacity with regards to

understanding text all by ourselves. To sum up, we need to cope with this new set up to totally grow and

develop in the name of education.”

realized that I need the help of other people but before, the support of my classmates are undeniably

wide, as of now, I can see in myself that little by little I was able to do things alone and not always be

dependent on others but still, I need help but if I know that I can, I can now do it even though it’s hard.)

[C]: “I realized that the every lesson is really hard to understand but it is necessary to double up the

perseverance because no one will do that except you only, others are busy too doing their own works,

not every time there’s someone who’ll help.”

[S]: “I realize that being independent is not bad after all. It can bring out the best in you that can create

new ideas. Of course, you need help sometimes but working and figuring out the lessons by yourself has

that satisfaction feeling and it will make you realize that 'I managed to do it!'. This kind of learning

system is hard of course but students are somehow surviving it for how many months now so I guess it is

not that worse. This learning also thought us many things that we thought we can't do and that what it

makes worth it at the end of the day.”

[Sm]: “Well, those pressure makes me even want to finish my school works and it feels great whenever I

succeeded on having them done.”

[Pe]: “Narealize ko po kung bakit ang iba na bagay tulad po ng modules andito satin kahit mahirap

siya pero naging daan na maging masipag lalo na ang mga estudyante.” (I realized why other things

like modules are here with us, even though they’re hard but these pave way especially for students to

become industrious.”

[Po]: “It makes me realize that achieving your dreams is not that easy, I used to remind myself that

everything is under control.”

[Ho]: “I realize that this learning makes me more diligent for every task that are given to me.”

[M]: “Great success comes from lots of hard works and challenges. I have realized that even though all

of us struggles on studying, we must learn to keep moving forward.”

A different theme emerged in these responses namely, positive. The codes formulated are

difficulty and character. The difficulty in this particular data refers to the things that are in the state of

being difficult or challenges specially in studying in this current time. Character is the aggregate of

features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing, one such feature or trait;

characteristic, moral or ethical quality: a man of fine, honorable character (www.dictionary.com).

Generally, all the participants stated that they experience difficulties but through these self-improvement
occurred. These difficulties are mainly due to the learning changes present due to the pandemic and the

contributing factors. One participant responded the need for studying is a must for the future. 4 out of 10

participants described how they became more perseverant in studying and other related things on their

work in life. The two of them said that they mainly develop their independency. The remaining

participants assert how important learning is and how they handled their thinking to be able to continue.

All of this responses are categorized in the character code. 10 out of 10 participants who responded

positively befall on both difficulty and character. There’s a great percentage that shows how difficulty

on learning creates moral lessons to students as a guidance on their journey.

2. Improvement of students’ being as a human due to philosophical realizations

Being, the First Division of Hegel's Logic, in terms of the theory of cognition, is the first stage in

the process by which people arrive at knowledge of the world wherein the philosophy of being is first of

all “awareness", such reflection is only possible because we are natural human beings, with material

brains, sense organs and material needs founded in nature, in other words because we are part of being,

products of nature. Further, every act of reflection or recognition, every determination, pre-supposes that

we already have in our heads some concept, or notion (www.marxists.org ). The first step of self-

improvement requires you to become more self-aware and get to know yourself better which makes you

question yourself and face reality for what it is, however harsh it might be, when you work on yourself,

you get to know yourself better which lets you deal with your thoughts and emotions more effectively

(Belin, 2021). The philosophical realizations induce the improvement on how students had a role as a

being that exists for its being. The respondents’ statements were analyzed and categorized using a theme

which is development.

In response to the two consecutive and related questions: “What trait/s did you developed on

learning during the pandemic?” and “What way/s modules or school works taught you to be

independent?” The participants remarked:

[B]: “Creativeness and being productive, I need to adjust especially in our major subject. I need to

study on my own without a teacher. By the help of technology I enable to learn. Time management is the

key.”

[P]: “Independency, when the module/s cover/s personal perspectives towards anything. The outcomes

may sum up at our realizations individually. Thus, it provides a reference for related questions.”

[Hh]: “ Siguro naging marunong ako na mas maging masipag nan bigyan ng time ang mga bagay na

importante like ang pag-aaral, kasi po ang hirap niyan, siguro po kalahati palang ng hirap po sa future

like college. Dahil sa modules, natuto po ako na hindi na umasa sa answer ng iba at nakita ko na

kinaya ko naman pala.” (Maybe I learned how to be more perseverant and give time on the things that

I need to prioritize like studying, because the difficulty now is maybe just half of the hardship in the

future like in college. Because of modules, I learned to not always depend on others’ answers which I

can see that I can do it.)

[C]: “In learning during pandemic, I became hardworking in studying school lessons, I became

creative and give efforts in my school activities. I learned time management so I know when to do my

household chores and my school activities. I also became organized on my school works so I won’t

messed up.”

[S]:” I developed independency. It was hard learning and discovering by yourself but somehow I

managed it. In this case, I only have myself in order to learn the lessons so I need to focus more. I read

the instructions thoroughly and do it properly because I am too shy to ask anybody. It somehow makes

me more independent and figured things out by myself which is actually a good thing.”

[Sm]: “Independency and calmness. In a way that I had to depend and trust on my own knowledge and

skills to finish all tasks given without relying to other people too much.”

(Independency, during pandemic it is

a must to be independent, I learned to know things alone. The lessons that teachers explain to us to be

able to understand properly, we are now the ones doing it.)

[Po]: “I have developed creativeness in school works, warmth (affectionate and friendly) through SMS

to my old and new classmates, positive emotions and independency. It helps me improve my skills, doing

my works at a time (without depending to others) and self-control, it also helps me improve my reading

skills.”

[Ho]: “Being independent. I become independent in a way that I can answer all the modules without

help of everyone”

[M]: “Independency, learning to do tasks immediately rather than always saying "tomorrow or later".

Constructing explanations using my own ideas and words and learning to do task and projects promptly

without neglecting the protocols and the pandemic situation. When the lesson has tasks that needs

explanations using your own words and I used to solve problems having only myself by means of

watching tutorials on YouTube.”

A theme emerged through this responses which is development. Development is a process that

creates growth, progress, positive change or the addition of physical, economic, environmental, social

and demographic components (www.sid-israel.org). Through the observation and analysis of the given

feedbacks, the codes identified which are independency and perseverance have been constructed. It has

been analyzed that 8 out of 10 participants became independent during their learning process wherein

they were able to manage their selves, learn and work on their own without depending on others. On the

other hand, 2 out of 10 participants stated that they became more hardworking in studying, putting more
efforts and having the sense of self organization. It can be inferred that 8 out of 10 participants befall on

independency while the 2 remaining are under perseverance. Consequently, 10 out of 10 participants are

in the theme, development.

3. Philosophical realizations widen students’ capacity to explore thinking

One of the goals of education is to prepare students to learn through discovery. Encouraging

students to make connections to a real-life situation and identify patterns is a great way to practice their

critical thinking skills wherein in this process, they (the students) will discover and present convincing

reasons in support of their answers or thinking (Joseph, 2019). Thus, they will be able to know their

capacity in thinking, had the awareness, develop new skills and explore it in a way that can

advantageously improve their selves and actions as a result.

The participants were asked by two consecutive related questions:” What makes in answering

modules?” and “How did you handle teaching yourself?”, the participants responded the following:

[B]: “To finish it as soon as possible. At first it’s very hard, but as time goes by I manage it easily with

the help of teacher and technology nowadays.”

[P]: “Personally, I felt excitement when it deals to enhance our numerical and comprehension skills. At

first, I find it difficult. But, as my journey goes deeper, I can handle teaching myself minimally. Little by

little, I tried to answer it through my personal understandings regardless of the help offered by the net.”

sarili mo, discovery.” (Maybe to finished earlier and when I answered something that I thought I can’t
but I really can and when there’s lesson that I liked. I handled to teach myself through focusing

specially no one’s teaching, it is needed to teach myself, you’re learning on your own self, discovery.)

[C]: “The idea that I will learn new things is what excites me. It is an achievement for me and I’m

happy that I learned it by myself and I give efforts with it. I give time in studying lessons so I will

understand and answer it correctly. I discipline myself and consider studying as my daily routine. In

times that I am stressed, I take a break in studying because it gives me a good mood.”

[S]: “The lessons of that modules are exciting for me. I'm excited to learn new things. Through massive

focus and being creative thinker, it helps me to learn the lessons all the time.“

[Sm]: “What makes me excited are the tasks that uses my skills on crafting. I was able to handle my self

by putting more focus into what has to be done and also managing my time.”

[Pe]: “Matutong sumagot nang mag isa, hindi na maaring umasa ka pa sa iba. May time management

ako upang mafocusan ko ang pag aaral ko.” (Learn to answer on my own, it’s not right to depend on

others. I have time management so I can focus on studying.)

[Po]: “It makes me excited to learn something specifically at my age, I'm also exhausted looking at this

4 corners of our house or in my room so module helps me do something great, it makes me excited

sometimes but it also irritates me too, I miss normal schooling. Actually, it was hard sometimes

specifically when I don't have any idea about the lessons, but I used to train myself and put more efforts

in my school works, it's just self-discipline.”

[Ho]: “It makes me excited, because it’s so fun to learn. I do time management.”
[M]: “I became excited if I am familiar with the given topic recognizing some ideas about it and assure

that I can answer the activities easily. I am doing time management. Every night, I note the activities I

am going to answer the following day.”

Excitement is defined as a feeling of enthusiasm, eagerness or exhilaration, or is defined as

something that causes such a feeling. Science is that something-stimulus for feeling of excitement

immediately impacts on your current state of your being/your state of awareness by breaking your

identification and releases you to another/higher state of your being (Pandya, 2018). The mentioned

subject is the theme formulated. The codes under this are the desire to learn and completion. The desire

to learn refers to the willingness of students to discover existing knowledge which can make

improvement on their selves. Completion, on the other hard is the thought of the need for them to finish

the school works they have. 2 out of 10 participants fall upon the code of completion which they stated

their eagerness for the want to finish their modules. 2 out of 10 participants responded that they get

excited on answering because of wanting to learn new and learn by self which they handled through

focus. In addition, 2 out of 10 participants also stated focus and the reason for the excitement which is

due to in relation with the use of their skills. Also, 2 out of 10 participants responded that they used

time management and get excited in the idea of the fun of learning and its familiarity that drives their

attention. One participant stated the excitement for learning new things and the satisfaction of happiness

it provides wherein giving time on studying and discipline are considered. Lastly, the other participant,

like others is also drown on the fact of the want for learning something with training oneself, putting

efforts and self-discipline. It is therefore stated that 8 out of 10 participants are in the desire to learn

code. To be added, it is recognized that 10 out of 10 participants befall on the theme which is

excitement. Students are still possessing the excitement of learning even though the situation today are

much more new and needing for adaptation actions.

CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary, findings, conclusions and recommendations of the

conducted study based from the analysis and interpretation of the data gathered.

Summary

This study aims to collect data on the attained philosophical realizations of students as well as

its causes, effects on actions and how these developed students' perspective during the pandemic under

the learning changes.

Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1) How can students attain realizations relating on the fundamental nature of knowledge,

reality and existence?

2) How can philosophical realizations of students improve their being as a human?

3) How do philosophical realizations widen students' capacity to explore thinking?

There is a total of 10 participants in the study. Each grade level starting from grade 7 to grade 12

has exactly 1 representing participant except for Grade 11 which are composed of 5 participants. They

are all living within the vicinity of (name of place/school). A phenomenology qualitative research design

is utilized on the data gathering, the method in this research study used the experiences and reflections

of participants as told through their subjective responses. The instrument used is in the form of mediated

interview (survey). Whereupon, the data gathered were analyzed through narrative analysis.

Findings

Based from the data gathered, the following findings were revealed:

I. Students attainment of realizations relating on the fundamental nature of

knowledge, reality and existence

The participants, Broad-minded (B), Precise (P), Heavy-hearted (H), Cool (C), Strong(S),

Smart(Sm), Perseverant(Pe), Positive(Po), Honest(H) and Melancholic (M) stated the factors that

provoke them to have realizations under the learning changes. One of the participants stated the reasons

why life and school challenges occur through the current experience. There is also one who specifically

stated challenges in studying and another one who described the flow of manner how reflection occurred

through the experiences. 3 out of 10 participants described what challenges they have and their

experiences on it on how it affects their actions such as working harder, having encouraging thoughts

and having fun of it. Also, there are two participants who explained how pressure changes from the past

situation into today’s situation. On the other hand, the other two participants stated how pressure gave

results in their actions in a positive way. The other four participants are under the pressure of coping up

wherein their responses stated how pressure causes their handling abilities to have a sense of

appreciation amidst the hardship wherein some aren’t fully aware but developing.
In terms of the specific philosophical realizations attained by students, one participant

responded the need for studying is a must for the future. 4 out of 10 participants described how they

became more perseverant in studying and other related things on their work in life. The two of them said

that they mainly develop their independency. The remaining participants assert how important learning

is and how they handled their thinking to be able to continue.

II. Improvement of students’ being as a human due to philosophical realizations

The participants stated the trait/s they developed under the learning changes and how they

become independent. In other words, they described how their being as a human was improved wherein

8 out of 10 participants became independent during their learning process wherein they were able to

manage their selves to learn and work on their own without depending on others. On the other hand, 2

out of 10 participants stated that they became more hardworking in studying, putting more efforts and

having the sense of self organization.

III. Philosophical realizations widen students’ capacity to explore thinking

Based from the observation of the participants’ responses, they described how their capacity to

explore thinking is widened specifically the excitement they got in learning which is due to the

philosophical realizations.

Also, 2 out of 10 participants responded that they used time

management and get excited in the idea of the fun of learning and its familiarity the drive their attention.

One participant stated the excitement for learning new things and the satisfaction of happiness it

provides wherein giving time on studying and discipline are considered. Lastly, the other participant,
like others is also drown on the fact of the want for learning something with training oneself, putting

efforts and self-discipline.

Conclusion

Based from the results revealed in the conducted study, the following conclusions were drawn:

1. It has been concluded that the main cause of students attainment of philosophical realizations is

the challenges they encountered during learning in modular/online approach. Through this, they

were able to reflect and gain realizations regarding the fundamental nature of knowledge which

is to give learning amidst the hardship, reality, wherein they saw what the truth of life and how it

works with challenges and existence, which they were opened by the fact of the presence of

education in this time of pandemic, to learn school and life lessons.

2. Philosophical realizations improve the students’ being as a human. Due to these realizations,

they were able to transform their thoughts into actions that describes their selves as who they are.

Students are mainly improved in terms of their independency, ability to analyze their current

situation and consequently handle them and boost their perseverance and dedication to learn.

3. Philosophical realizations widen students’ capacity to explore thinking. The categorized

excitement in the data revealed shows the there is interest arising on the student for their

learning. Therefore, they were able to have a wide thinking on what they want in learning.

Majority of the students responses showed the desire for learning and the rest showed excitement

of completion of the school works. The students are having a thinking capacity to discover new

ideas about their selves and what the school and life lessons can offer.
Recommendations

In the light of the following conclusions, the recommendations are hereby offered:

1. The Department of Education must implement school lessons and activities that will improve

students’ philosophical realizations.

2. Government officials especially on the sector of mental health related must implement

counseling activities to students.

3. There must be further investigations in other institutions of higher learning.

4. School teachers must still guide the students amidst the self-learning modules given to

thoroughly monitor and examine their behavior towards the learning process in order to come up

with the formulation of corresponding actions.

5. In addition, the students must be properly oriented about the causes and effects of the occurrence

of the philosophical realizations with the purpose of the continuation of producing these.

(I realized that I need the help of other people but before, the support of my classmates are undeniably
