Pre-assessment/Activat The teacher will remind students of the poem of the week and point out the
e prior knowledge contraction in the poem.
Instruction The teacher will begin by reminding students there will be lots of partner
“I do” talk so respect each and be kind to one another at all times.
Slide 3: The teacher will ask students to have a partner talk about contractions
to activate curiosity.
Side 4: The teacher will go over what contractions are in simpler terms for
students to understand.
Slide 5: The teacher will go over examples on contractions and teach the flying
away apostrophe.
Slide 6: The teacher will ask students to have a partner talk if they think
contractions are helpful.
Slide 7: The teacher will play the BrainPOP Video on contractions and tak the
short quiz with the whole class.
* After each partner talk, the students will share and have an open
discussion as a class.
The teacher will ask students to take out their My Writing Words book and with
their partners, they will practice saying/looking over the contractions on page
52.
Guided Practice After, the teacher will get students' attention again to introduce the contraction
“We do” scavenger hunt worksheet. The teacher will explain to students that they will be
going on a contraction scavenger hunt, using the chapter books on their desk
and mini magnifying glasses. The teacher will model a few with students. To
ensure understanding, the teacher will have students repeat instructions.
Independent Practice The teacher will allow students to complete the contraction scavenger hunt
“You do” worksheet independently.
Post assessment The teacher will assess the contractions scavenger hunt worksheet students
completed independently.
The teacher will also assess the students by observing students during the
BrainPOP Jr. quiz when they’re signaling their answers.

activities that are leveled to fit the student:
