Automated Paint Mixer
Objective:
The objective of our project is to implement an automated industrial paint mixer that can make seven
different colors by mixing three basic colors i.e., red, blue and green. For each color there is unique
ratio r: b: g which will be controlled by a ladder logic program fed to PLC.

Features:
Sensor:
Push Button: The purpose of push button is to provide input from the three containers containing inks
(red, blue and green).
Level Sensor: It is use to check the level of the liquid present in the mixer.
CPU:
CPU containing the RS Logix which is the basic software for programing the PLC.
PLC:
An Allan Bradley PLC which is connected with the hardware to control the operations of hardware.
Actuators:
Solenoid Valve: The purpose of using the solenoid valve is to open or block the input as-well as the
drain.
Motor: Motor will be used as stirrer here to mix the input ink colors.
Hardware:
It includes the containers containing the inks (red, green and blue), container for the final product and
the drained container, pipes will be used to maintain the connection between the containers.

Scope:
With the evolution of industrial technology and increasing demand of high product quality and
production efficiency it has now became the need for every industry to upgrade themselves from the
old production methods and setups to more contemporary and efficient resources in the shape of
automated solutions.
Most important part of paint production industry is mixing because these industries generally produce
a few basic colors and the generate variety by mixing those colors in various ratios. For instance, in
our project just by mixing three basic colors in that too in equal proportions we end up with seven
different colors. The number can be increased by including more colors at input and mixing them in
various proportions. So, just by acceleration of mixing process the whole paint production process
can be sped up to great extent.

Deliverables:
 Increase production rate.
 Reduce labor fatigue.
 Improved labor productivity.
 High production precision and quality.

Methodology:
The project includes seven manual inputs (i.e., push button), two level sensors, a motor as stirrer and
four solenoid control. The push buttons will help to select the require color we are going to use. Three
out of four valves will control input of basic colors into main tank while the fourth one will be used to
drain the main tank. We will utilize timer module to set the time for stirring while level sensors will
coordinate by sensing the two levels i.e., filled and empty levels of the tank.
