My Cultural Autobiography

Hi, my name is Laisa, and I was born and raised as a Hispanic woman in the United

States in Las Vegas Nevada. As described from my cultural background both of my parents were

from the north side of Mexico. Further explanation to this, my mom is from a different part of

Mexico called “Tepehuanes, Durango” and my dad is from “Chihuahua” which is another part of

Mexico as explained. I also have two siblings who are my brothers that were also born from the

United States as well. As a Hispanic I have been able to learn more about how my heritage is that

there’s much to learn from my culture such as the celebrations that include the “Día de los

Muertos” meaning day of the dead that is an important holiday tradition that’s celebrated for

those with Mexican heritage around the United States that is a celebration towards loved ones

who died, as explained in this tradition the bread the people give to their loved ones is something

to give to the dead as a meaning of remembrance of family who died in the past to show respect.

Some experiences involved through my influences is that I learned to speak Spanish

better after traveling to Mexico despite English as my first language with my family during

vacation when visiting my grandparents and as well as other places that would speak Spanish.

My cultural orientation was influenced from Spain because Spain conquered Mexico about three
2

hundred years ago as it was also a mixed culture combined with Spain culture altogether but

when Mexico was finally free from Spain that is when the whole culture was combined into a

new culture called the “Hispanic Race” and that was how my race was created culturally during

its history back then.

One of my influences that come from my family is that culturally we have a lot of

cousins from other parts of Mexico as we have met some of them which was a wonderful

experience as well as the Mexican food my family makes had influenced me to feel closer to my

culture. My family is religiously Mormon, and they are from the north side of Mexico. How this

kind of writing process helped me discover more about my multicultural self is that as a person

my culture has taught me a lot of interesting's about who I am culturally.

Last, this was all that was learned from my cultural autobiography that gave a brief

explanation about my culture, influences and a little more about my family in detail as said from

my essay.
