I. Introduction
1. At its fifty-third session, the Working Party on Inland Water Transport decided to
transform its informal working group on the European Code for Inland Waterways
(CEVNI) into a “CEVNI expert group”, in charge of monitoring the implementation of the
new CEVNI by Governments and River Commissions and examining future amendment
proposals to CEVNI. The CEVNI expert group was expected to meet back-to-back with the
Working Party on the Standardization of Technical and Safety Requirements in Inland
Navigation (SC.3/WP.3) sessions (ECE/TRANS/SC.3/183, para.13).
2. The CEVNI expert group met twice in 2010, back-to-back with the SC.3/WP.3
thirty-sixth and thirty-seventh session and prepared a list of further amendments to the
fourth revised edition of CEVNI. This list, approved by the SC.3/WP.3 thirty-seventh
session (ECE/TRANS/SC.3/WP.3/74, para. 12), is presented in section II. The expert group
and the secretariat have also identified a number of misprints in the fourth revision of
CEVNI (ECE/TRANS/SC.3/115/Rev.4). They are presented in section III.
3. The Working Party may wish to approve the proposed amendments as pending
amendments to CEVNI, to be formally adopted at the next substantial revision of the code.
The Working Party may also wish to instruct the secretariat to issue a corrigendum to
ECE/TRANS/SC.3/115/Rev.4.
