A whole lotta love:
Studying burbot
on the Missouri
by Marc Kloker, FWP Region 6
Burbot (scientific name
Lota lota) are a fish species that
most folks don’t see very often in
northeast Montana, although they
are historically found in the Milk,
Missouri, and Yellowstone drainages.
Burbot are easily recognized
by their long, “eel-like” shape,
smooth skin, and single barbel.
They are the sole freshwater
member of the Cod family, and
have many common names
throughout the U.S., including
ling, eelpout, freshwater cod,
lingcod, cusk, mariah, and lawyer.
Many anglers target burbot for
their table fare, as their flesh tastes
like lobster, earning them another
nickname of “poor man’s lobster.”
Burbot are an S4 species of
concern in Montana, meaning

rare in parts of its range). Not
vulnerable in most of its range.” FWP biologist Jared Krebs handles a burbot that was recently collected

Did you get duped by Turbo Tax?

If you did, Montana Attorney General Austin
Knudsen announced today that his office secured
a half-million dollars from the owner of TurboTax, 406-228-9519

to steer low-income consumers toward its commercial

In addition, Intuit must suspend TurboTax’s
“free, free, free” ad campaign that lured customers
with promises of free tax preparation services, only
to deceive them into paying for services.
Intuit has offered two free versions of TurboTax.
One was through its participation in the IRS Free
File Program, a public-private partnership with
the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which allows
taxpayers earning roughly $34,000 and members of
the military to file their taxes for free. In exchange
for participating in the program, the IRS agreed not
to compete with Intuit and other tax-prep companies
by providing its own electronic tax preparation and
filing services to American taxpayers.

Daley Aune had a 3-run home run for a 4-3 lead
over Cut Bank, but the Wolves battled back to win.
Glasgow dropped to 5-8 over and 2-4 in conference

their final home games: Lewistown on Saturday following
the Scotty Youth Softball Camp at 3:00, and Sidney on
Tuesday at 5:00. They close out the regular season in Cut
Bank May 13-14 where they will see all west teams.
"It will be fun to see teams we haven't played," said
Hartwell.
He said the girls need to get better at base running
as he is working with four players that hadn't played
high school softball until this year. Four Hinsdale a\
girls joined the team. Zandora Longtree, Ava Reyes,
and Montaya Idler, all seniors, and Berkley Hillman, a
freshman.
"Zandora is doing great. She's been starting for us
since the season opened. She's hitting over .300 and
fielding the ball well. She's aggressive and not scared to
dive for the ball," said Hartwell. "Berkley is picking up
the game well. In fact, she started at second base for us
against Conrad. Montaya and Ava, those two are a force
