Exercise 8 life sience

1. Explain which food primarily provides the energy used by the hummingbird.
to fly and which other serves as a complement.
The hummingbird is a nectarivorous animal, this means that it feeds on nectar, it
contains large amounts of sugar, sugar has the characteristic of providing a large
amount of energy. In addition to that they eat small insects such as small bugs or
spiders, this happens rarely since they only consume these animals when they want
to obtain nectar.

2. Identify which food molecule is the main source of energy and which are its
elements.
They have as a source of energy, carbohydrates, fats and proteins, each of them has
different characteristics.
Carbohydrates have carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen as elements.
Fats have carbon, hydrogen and oxygen as elements.
Proteins have Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen and Sulfur as elements.

3. Explain the digestion process since the hummingbird feeds on the

nectar from the flower until it is transformed into the energy needed to fly. Include
the amount of energy produced by each molecule.
Hummingbirds occupy their long pincer-shaped tongue which is coiled around their
head, they use it to obtain nectar from flowers, after obtaining the nectar it passes
through the intestine where neutrons are absorbed by the body, thus converts into a
large amount of energy.
Hummingbirds manage to obtain 99% of sugar that gives them the aforementioned
large amounts of energy, the waste that is not useful is discarded in the form of
defecation.
Make an illustrated diagram to represent the process followed by energy:

A: The sun spreads energy, in the form of light, ultraviolet rays and heat
B: The plant makes photosynthesis which it uses to survive.
C: The nectar is produced by the plant to be able to distribute seeds, it is also a food that
contains a lot of sugar.
D: the hummingbird reaches the plant and drinks the nectar.
E: Nectar is digested and transformed into energy for the hummingbird's body
