Software Evaluation 1
Software Evaluation 1
The software product I chose to evaluate is a math game called “prodigy” it's not
just a game, but you can also get help by tutors. When you first open the game, it
will ask you what grade you are in, the country you reside in and then lastly the
state. Then, it will tell you to choose your wizard (avatar), you get to customize
your little wizard. Once you customize your wizard you get to choose what world
you want to be in. Also, you get to choose a premade name for your wizard. You
also get to choose a little “monster” aka pet. Once, you’ve done all the
customizations a little monster will pop up and you will get in a “wizard battle” in
order to beat the monster you need to cast a “spell” which means you will need to
answer math equations/questions to beat the monster. If you get the answer
wrong the monster will attack, then the computer will tell you the correct answer
and will let you try again. After you’ve beat the monster, you will level up; earn
coins and continue.
Is the product/software easy for you and the students to use? Explain.
Yes, the game was very easy to log in/sign up, you could use your school email or
regular email if you're a parent. Like I mentioned it does read the sentences out
loud for the younger students who might have trouble reading. It also has little
arrows guiding where to go, which is also a great tool for younger students. If the
child doesn’t understand a word, it has a little lightbulb to explain it furthermore.
For example, “which is a hexagon” (little bulb) “a hexagon has 6 sides”
Does the software serve its intended purpose, which is classroom use? Explain.
Yes, I do believe it intends its purpose because it's teaching students how to do
math but in a fun way. Teachers can use this software product in their math
lessons as a group or individual work
Are there multiple forms of media (audio, video, and textual communication
channels) that encourage the student to engage with the software? Explain.
Yes, students get to customize their own wizard and their pets what student
doesn’t like customizing their own avatar. It also gives out gold coins once you’ve
won a battle, you can use those gold coins to buy things for your avatar. You also
earn hearts to keep you alive longer for your battles with the monsters.
