REVIEW
Types of Quadrilateral
SQUARE – the sides of square are parallel to each other and are
equal measure. Its interior angles are 90 degrees and its diagonals are
bisecting each other perpendicularly.

RECTANGLE- the opposite sides of rectangle are of equal length and

parallel to each other. Its interior angles are 90 degrees and its
diagonals bisect each other.

PARALLELOGRAM – the opposite sides of parallelogram are of

equal length and parallel to each other. The opposite angles are of
equal measures and its diagonals bisect each other.
REVIEW
Types of Quadrilateral
RHOMBUS – all four sides are of the same measure, opposite sides
are parallel, opposite angles are of the same measure, and diagonals
perpendicularly bisect each other.

TRAPEZIUM (TRAPEZOID) - the two adjacent sides of a

trapezium are supplementary, The diagonals of a trapezium bisect
each other in the same ratio.

KITE - the pair of adjacent sides of a kite are of the same

length, the largest diagonal of a kite bisects the smallest
diagonal, and only one pair of opposite angles are of the
same measure.
At the end of this lesson, you are
expected to:
1.Demonstrate understanding of
area of quadrilaterals;
2.Evaluate the importance of
solving area of quadrilaterals in
real life; and
3.Solve the area of
quadrilaterals.
Motivational Activity!
Mechanics:
4 Pics 1 Word's gameplay is very simple: each level displays
four pictures linked by one word - the player's aim is to work
out what the word is, from a set of letters given below the
pictures

ACTIVITY!
Fill Me: The class will be divided into three groups. Each group
represents different colors; Red, Blue, and Yellow. Fill the
assigned type of material (sheet of notebook, sheet of pad
paper, and bond paper) with the cut-out colored papers. I will
give you five minutes to finish you task. After you done, present
your work in class.
Process Question:
1.In our previous activity, what do you
observe about the output of your classmate
or group?
In geometry, the area can be defined as the space
occupied by a flat shape or the surface of an
object. It is measured in square units, such as cm2,
m2, in2, etc.
Area of Different Types of
Quadrilaterals
Area of Square
Area of the square is the region covered
by it in a two-dimensional plane. The
area here is equal to the square of the
sides or side squared. It is measured in
square unit.
Area = side2 per square unit
If ‘a’ is the length of the side of square,
then;
Area = a2 sq.unit
A= side 2

= (5 cm)2

= 25 cm 2
A= side 2

= (10 cm)2

= 100 cm 2
Area of Rectangle
The area of the rectangle is the
area covered by its outer
boundaries. It is equal to the
product of length and width.
The formula of area of rectangle is:
A = Length x Width square unit
A = L x W square unit
A = 7m x 4m
A = 28 m 2
A = L x W square unit
A = 10 in x 5 in
A = 50 in 2
Area of Parallelogram
Area of a parallelogram is the
region occupied by it in a two-
dimensional plane. Below is the
formula to find the parallelogram
area:
Area = Base × Height square units
A = Base x Height
A = 8cm x 5cm
A = 40 cm 2
A = Base x Height
A = 12cm x 8cm
A = 96 cm2
Area of Rhombus
The area of the rhombus is the region
covered by it in a two-dimensional plane. The
formula for the area is equal to the product of
diagonals of rhombus divided by 2. It can be
represented as:
Area of Rhombus, A = (d1 x d2)/2 square
units
where d1 and d2 are the diagonals of a
rhombus.
A = (d1 x d2)/2
A = (8 yd x 10 yd)/2
A = 80 yd2/2
A = 40 yd 2
A = (d1 x d2)/2
A = (12 cm x 16 cm)/2
A = 192 cm /22

A = 96 cm 2
Area of Trapezium
The area of a trapezium can be found by
taking the average of the two bases of a
trapezium and multiply by its altitude. So, the
area of the trapezium formula is given as:

Area of a Trapezium, A = h(a+b)/2 square

units.
Where,
“a” and “b” are the bases
“h” is the altitude or height.
A = h(a+b)/2
A = 4 in (3 in + 5 in)/2
A = 4 in (8 in)/2
2
A = 32 in /2
A= 16 in2
A = h(a+b)/2
A = 8 in (6 in + 10 in)/2
A = 8 in (16 in)/2
A = 128 in2/2
A= 64 in2
Area of Kite
The area of a kite can be defined as the
amount of space enclosed or encompassed
by a kite in a two-dimensional plane. The
area of a kite is given as half of the product
of the length of the two diagonals of the kite.

Area of a kite = 1/2 × d1 × d2 square units

where,
d1 = shorter diagonal of the kite
d2 = longer diagonal of the kite
A = 1/2 × d1 × d2
A = ½ x 10 cm x 18 cm
A = ½ x 180 cm 2

A = 90 cm 2
A = 1/2 × d1 × d2
A = ½ x 15 cm x 25 cm
A = ½ x 375 cm2
A = 187.5 cm2
What is the significance
of studying area of
different
quadrilaterals?
Activity 1: Solve

1. Hannah is wrapping a present for her mum’s birthday. She bought

a lovely picture frame as a present. The picture frame is 25 cm in
length and 18 cm in width. What is the area of the picture frame
that Hannah is wrapping?

2. It is summertime and you want to make a kite. The one that you
made has a diagonals of 10 cm and 20 cm, what is the area of your
kite?

3. You have a vacant lot in your place and you want to sell it. You
want to know how big it is to set the price. Your lot has a length of
30 m in all sides. What will be the area?
Solve the following.
1. The area of a rectangle is 12 square inches. It has a length
of 6 inches. What is the width?

2. A trapezoid has a bases of 5 in and 9 in, and has a height

of 7 in. Find its area.

3. Find the area of a square with a side measuring 4 inches.

4. A rhombus has a two diagonals measuring 3m and 5m.

Find its area.

5. What is the area of a tennis court with a length of 78 feet

and a width of 36 feet?
Assignment
Look for at least three (3)
quadrilateral object in your house,
take a picture of it and find its area.
Then paste the photo of it in a short
size bond paper with the solution
for its area.
Thank you for
listening 
