1. Course Title: Ayat Al-Ahkam Wa Ahadith (Arabic)

8. Course Synopsis: It analyses the relevance of Qur'anic verses and prophetic traditions
(hadith) to practical rules of Shari‘ah based on them and how these rules are derived from
the former, in some specific areas of Islamic Law such as rights of parents, permission to
privacy, conciliation, etc. The meanings and implications of the linguistic, grammatical
and structural composition of the relevant verses on the related areas of law are looked
into, based on authentic Qur’anic exegesis.

Course Assessment System, Sem. 1 (2020-2021)
1. Attendance to the tutorials is compulsory. Students shall register for tutorials in the
First week.
2. Tutorials will commence in the third week. Students should familiarize themselves
with the assessment system and scoring rubrics, as given in this attachment.
3. There are three components of assessment for Course Work (45%): (1) written
assignment paper 25 marks, (2) Oral presentation 10 marks and (3) Class Discussions
10 marks. See attached scoring rubrics for each assessment component.
The assignment shall be completed by the students jointly in a group mutually formed
not exceeding eight participants, on a topic related to any particular area of the course
outline. It should not be a topic directly mentioned in the course outline. The students
must inform the lecturer of the members of their group and obtain the approval of the
lecturer for the topic preferred by them by the end of the fifth week. The assignment
should be a well-researched write-up not exceeding 3000 words. The completed
group assignment must be submitted before the end of the 11 th week, i.e. before the
end of the week preceding the last lecture week of the semester. Your topics may
require modification, therefore early submission could be beneficial. Please take note
of the following with regard to the assignment:
The focus of the discussion should be on legal (fiqhi) aspects that are relevant.
The writing must be well researched, and supported with evidences from
recgnized Fiqh sources of the four schools as necessary.
Material quoted from other sources must be clearly distinguished from your own
words and cited in foot notes; they should not be mixed with the ideas and writing
of the writers.
The finalized work should be submitted before the end of the week preceding the
last week of lessons.
8. Scoring rubrics are attached. Study the rubrics carefully in order to know the
assessment criteria.
Integrity
Excellent: Student shows that he is very honest in his class works, signs his own attendance only, and
has strong moral principles.
Good: Student shows that he is honest in his class works, signs his own attendance only, and has moral
principles.
Fair: Student shows signs that he lacks integrity and moral principles.
Poor: Student is dishonest and has no moral principles.
Discipline
Excellent: Student always obeys the dress code and other university rules, and is always punctual to the
class.
Good: Most of the times student obeys the dress code and other university rules, and is punctual to the
class.
Fair: Many times student obeys the dress code or other university rules, and is punctual to the class.
Poor: Student defies the dress code or other university rules, or always comes late to the class.

Manners
Excellent: Student demonstrates full knowledge and answers all questions with
explanations and elaboration. The information is accurate, in depth and in sufficient
amount. Student properly cites resources.
Good: Student is at ease with information and gives expected answers to all questions,
but fails to elaborate. The information is accurate and in sufficient amount, but some
resources are not cited.
Fair: Student is uncomfortable with information and is able to answer only rudimentary
questions. Some information is inaccurate, and some resources are not cited.
Poor: Student does not have grasp of information and cannot answer questions about
subject. Information is inaccurate, and most sources are not cited.
Excellent: The presentation displays elements of creativity and style, and is not simply a
list of information. The presentation is clear and concise.
Good: The presentation is clear and logical and contains pertinent information.
Fair: The presentation lacks style and reads more like a list of information, rather than as
a support for an oral presentation. The presentation lacks neatness and clarity.
Poor: The presentation lacks a clear focus and there are many errors. The presentation is
not creative.
Communication
Excellent: Student’s voice is clear. Student pronounces all terms correctly. All audience
members can hear the presentation. Student listens attentively to questions and comments
from others.
Good: Student’s voice is clear. Student pronounces most terms correctly. Most audience
members can hear the presentation. Student listens to questions and comments from
others.
Fair: Student’s voice is low. Student incorrectly pronounces some terms. Audience
members have difficulty hearing the presentation. Student is not attentive to questions or
comments from others.
Poor: Student mumbles, incorrectly pronounces many terms, and speaks too softly for
students in the back of the class to hear. Student does not listen to questions or comments
from other
Excellent: Information clearly relates to the main topic. Points are clearly made. Analysis
is good.
Good: Information clearly relates to the main topic. Points are made, but analysis is
weak.
Fair: Information clearly relates to the main topic. Points are insufficiently developed.
