Poems are made up of lines; Lines that are grouped together in a poem are called a
stanza. Most poems have a rhythm, which is created by the stressed (long) and
unstressed (short) parts of a word, called syllables. The rhythm of a poem is known as
meter.

HISTORY
Poetry is believed to have originated from ancient rituals and chants used for storytelling
purposes when performing religious ceremonies or rites of passage such as weddings or
funerals. Poets such as Homer and Virgil were revered during ancient times.
