INTRODUCTION
Working and studying at the same time is not an easy task, it requires a lot of
effort. Balancing of time between studying and working can be a tough situation. Putting
so much of one’s mental and physical energy into this uneasy arrangement usually leaves
a feeling of fatigue, stress, or both. Working students are usually belong to families with
low average income, where survival is a must. Working while studying could have
positive effects on one thing and negative on another, and that it would affect different
kinds of students differently. Students who work are more confident and better time-
management skills than students who are not employed. Working can give a satisfactions,
especially on being independent, working also provide training and experience. On the
other hand, working can be a factor for a student to stop schooling because of the money
that they’ll earn. Students working assume extra responsibilities, besides studying, with
the goal of earning for school fees and other needs. Schooling now a days costs are high
that students also want the amenities that extra money brings. Working, at the same time
studying, has some positive and negative effects on their achievement, self-esteem, and
time management.
A working student is a person who has work and at the same time go to school
as a student. Being a working student needs a lot of effort not only to his work but also in
their studies. In the Philippines, a lot of teenagers who work are those who have no
capability to finance their tuition fee, bills in the school and their allowance by their
family. Education is very important to Filipino family they really work hard to send their
children to school and finish their education as long as they can.
Studying is all about learning to be a part of the practical world and the
challenges that it brings with it. Working also helps not only to fill in financial problem
and to give a first-hand experience, but also to encourage to be independent, be creative,

This study seeks to explore the struggles and difficulties of the students who
study and work at the same time. The student’s behavior will be considered in this study
as it is connected to the struggles and difficulties encountered by working students.
Objectives
The purpose of this study is:
To know how working and studying will impact to working students.
To determine the struggles of working students in school.
To determine how working students face the terms of academic difficulties in
school.
Students, the study will help students (esp. working students) know the academic
struggles they will encounter in school. And, they will know how to solve and/or
overcome academic struggles.
Teachers, the study will help teachers understand the academic struggles encountered by
working students in school. Teachers will be guided by this study on what to do with
students experiencing academic struggles.
Future researchers, the study will guide future researchers about academic struggles
faced by working students in school and how will they solve them.

Research Design
This study used qualitative method because it gathers and assess respondents
answer without numerical data. Qualitative research is primarily exploratory research. It
is used to gain an understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations. It
provides insights into the problem or helps to develop ideas or hypotheses for potential
quantitative research.
Population Sampling
The respondent of this study are the senior high school student of PWU-CDCEC
from grade 11 to grade 12. The total population are three hundred sixteen (316) senior
high school students of PWU-CDCEC, one hundred twenty seven (127) Grade 11
students and one hundred eighty nine (189) Grade 12 students. The researchers
interviewed five (5) respondents from grade 11 to grade 12 in different sections.
The researchers interviewed Senior High School students. Researchers also ask
the students if they are willing to be interviewed. The questionnaires made by the
researchers is answered by the Senior High School students of PWU-CDCEC.
Data Analysis
The researchers based the data analysis on the research questions and the
research design with the use of both descriptive. Analysis was used to analyse the data
which gathered from personal interviews, a main advantage of the content analysis is that
it helps in data collected being reduced reduced and simplified.
