INTRODUCTION

Technology is the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of
technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment.
Technology increases the awareness of student, help then increasing thinking and
creativity in learning tasks, provide quick access to subject material and engage them
in adopting strategies which can help maximizing the quality of learning. The
process of learning can become very rich if students have access to latest information
on subject, can analyze the information quickly by manipulating technology.

Nowadays, to meet the standards of the technology, technology is

continuously improving and developing. Technology are changing our lives, in just
one click you can get all you want.

With the constant technological development and globalizations of our world,

many professions must keep up these changes. Teachers are ones of them. They take
responsibility not only for themselves but also for their pupils as their main task is to
prepare their student for an independent life. Consequently, teachers are to keep up
with all the novelties including innovative methods of teaching and development of
new skills.

Technological resources such as computers, laptops, and mobile phone used

in teaching and learning activities how both constructive and destructive effect on
academic environment effecting both students and teachers. The use of technical and
instrumental innovation set of a chain of actions and reaction within academic
system. The purpose of this paper is to study the perception of senior high school

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

All students (from elementary through high school) need greater exposure to a
plethora of technologies in the classroom, but many schools may not be meeting this need
(Bolkan,2012). Many students are found to have the capability to use technology, as well
as the access to do so at home, and many of those utilize it for educational purposes
(Erlich et, al. 2013).

Rather than just teaching a student a static skill, they can be taught how to use the
tools and technology they have, to solve a problem of their own (Vorthmann,2017).

A study by the Washington Post of Maryland Schools observed teachers and

students using computers for basic tasks, such as word processing and email
communication (Vorthmann,2017).

A key part of implementing technology into the classroom is to incorporate it into

daily activities but also to shift the focus of the class. To be successful in implementation,
the instructor must transition from teacher-centered learning, a top down instruction
model, to more student-centered approach (Vorthmann,2017).

In being student-centered the level of integration of technology into the

curriculum is determining by the student. This allows the students the ability to think of
innovative uses that, in a teacher centered model, may not have be thought of. Here, the
learning process and providing a strong framework on which they can build and
innovative (Vorthmann,2017).

According to John Paul Espinosa (2016) Technology advance hand greatly
change the education landscape in their teaching is no longer confined to the traditional
face- to-face delivery of the lesson, Now, via internet we can also learn not only in the
classroom but outside the school, through the convergence of modern and traditional
method. Student are now able to experience the best of both worlds; they can learn from
school and get additional information or lesson through the web and internet.

According to the study of Jimson Mariano (2017) the Philippine government has
been committed to bring the education system into a modernized status. Particularly on
basic education in its effort to make each and every student at par with other student of
neighboring developed countries, our country is now capable to utilize and produce
information and to transform in to knowledge and vast array of good and service, the
department of education (DEPED) has initiate in 1996 a computerize program with the
goal of preparing Filipino student for employment and competitive career by teaching
them to master new form of technology, they also would like to harness and enhance the
power of technology toward developing the entire teaching -learning process.
Specifically, in its bid to make every public-school student empowered in this highly
globalize and integrated word economy.

According to Melvin Matulac, assistant prof at university of Santo Tomas,

Today’s education faces a lot of challenges, the swirling change and development in
teaching and learning seem promising and yet are still at their infant stage. There is
resurgence for constructivist approaches in the classroom. Howard Gardner contradicts
the IQ phenomena his own finding on multiple intelligent. the banking method of
education is totally unacceptable to some education circle and yet the new method brings
their own share of confusion. the use of technology is at least one unavoidable reality and
twenty years after the introduction of the PC. As many roads have been paved for us to
follow, a lot of work still lay ahead, in the present stage. Since technology is hereto say.
Some education took a how technology is being use, instead of technology dictating what

they should do, they started telling technology what they wanted to do in teaching core
subject. The technology expert, they suddenly found themselves as the assistant of the
teachers finding ways to bring technology at the service of learning

The Philippines star created an 12st of July 2014 about how technology helps
student study well. According to it more and more school use technology such as
computers and the interest in their classroom and several improvements on student have
seen and they are now getting better in education. these improvements are the following;
Independence’s and information gathering. critical thinking and reflection,
communication and collaboration, more engaging learning experience and preparation for
jobs later on, by connecting the internet.

Student learn how to do their own research and with the large information that
they access. Student are induced to learn to think critically. Through exchange of ideas
and massage. Student are able to collaborate with each other to test their understanding of
the lessons. Information today is more engaging to the mind and the sense because of its
multimedia nature, knowing all of these improvements and advantage, more and more
school are allowing not just desktop computer and laptop, but also table devise and
smartphone in their classroom.

According to the MST News (2013) millions of Filipino student are back to
school, some will be studying more comfortable in air-conditioned rooms, complete with
hi-tech learning tools such as computer and modern mythologies others will not be as
privileged, still, learning takes precedence over disparities in learn conditions. Substance
over from, we say, with the recent implementation of the K to 12 programs, the countries
basic education curriculum undergoes as a major overhaul in the form of two additional
years from the existing 10-years basic education. The authority Says the transition will
provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skill, develops lifelong learner, and
prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level development, employment, and

competitive with other countries, as the 12 years of basic schooling had long been a

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

In this chapter, the researchers will discuss the research design, locale of the study,
population sampling, data gathering procedure and the data analysis.

Research design

This study used qualitative method because it gathers and assess respondents ans
wer without numerical data. Qualitative research is a process naturalistic inquiry that seek
s in-depth understanding of social phenomena within their natural setting. It focuses on th
e ‘’ why’’ rather than the ‘’ what’’ of social phenomena and relies on the direct experienc
e of human beings as meaning-making agents and their everyday lives.

Population Sampling

The respondents of this study are the senior high school student of Philippine Wo
men’s University-Career Development and Continuing Education Center from grade 11
to grade 12. The total population sampling is three hundred sixteen (316) senior high
school students of Philippine Women’s University-Career Development and Continuing
Education Center, One hundred twenty-seven (127) Grade 11 students and one hundred
eighty-nine (189) Grade 12 students. The researchers interviewed 14 respondents from
grade 11 to grade 12 in different sections. The researchers used a type of non-probability
sampling which is availability sampling. In this kind of sampling, researchers interviewed
the people who are willing to interact with this kind of topic.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers made a questioner to conduct the study on the Senior High Schoo
l students. Researchers ask each teacher for permission to interview their students. The qu
estioner was given to the respondents, Grade 11 and Grade 12 students which help the res
earchers to know the Perception of Senior High School Students in the Usage of Technol
ogy in Teaching.

Data Analysis

The researchers based the data analysis on the research questions and the research
design with the use of narrative. Analysis was used to analyse the data which gathered fro
m personal interviews, a main advantage of the content analysis is that it helps in data col
lected being reduced and simplified.

Respondent 12: “For me oo kasi parang ngayon mas na eelaborate ng mga teacher yung

gusto nila ipaiwatig tas minsan meron pa silang pinapanood samin para mas
maunawaan.”

Respondent 13: “Yes, kasi ano kapag gumagamit sila nong Laptop kapag kapagka yong

lesson mas mabilis naming na tatandaan kasi naka Powe point na siya tapos pwedeng

balikan agad kapag may naka limutan.”

Respondent 14: “Maybe kasi mas natututo din ako sa ano pag ako yong sarili ko nag

used technology as teaching materials.

Question 5. “How do you respond to the teaching process with the use of technology?”

Respondent 7: “Siguro non nakikisabay na lang din as of now talagang more on

technology na yong tinuturmore on technology na kaya parang ngayon nakikisabay na

lang din para mas napapadali naming yong gawain.”

Respondent 8: “As a student nakakacope up ako, nakakarespond ako yong interms of

sapag intindi ng lesson and sa paggawa din with the use of technology.”

Respondent 9: “Depende kasi yon sa learning ng bata so para sakin mas mabilis akong

are being used in their classroom for teaching. 5 out of 14 respondents said that laptops
are used in their classroom for teaching materials also 1 out of 14 students said that
computer are also used for teaching.

In question number two, respondents are asked of the disadvantages and

advantages of technology during lessons or in their class. Respondents said that using
technology really helped them a lot to cope with their lessons. Using technology helped
them to make their work easier and because it is convenient to use. Also, it really helps
the teacher to teach with the use of technology, they can easily imparted knowledge in
their students and using power points in presenting lectures really helps the student to
visualize the topic more clearly. According to the respondents this are the disadvantages
of using technology in teaching such as: some students can’t see well the presented lesson
projected by the projector because of their eyesight also the students need to adjust their
sitting position to see clearly the lesson well. Respondent number 3 said that the teacher
is no longer using board to write while discussing, also respondent number 7 said that
using visual aid on presenting lesson are no longer used because of the power points. We
all know that cellphones are prohibited to use but respondent number 6 said that sending
files in phones can distract students in listening to the discussions of their teachers also
respondent number 8 said that it is a hindrance for the students to use cellphones while
studying. Respondent number 9 said that not everyone can access technology.

In question number three, respondents are asked if their teachers discuss the
lesson well with the use of technology in their teaching. 13 out of 14 agreed that their
teacher teaches well with the use of the technology. They observe that it is not
inconvenient for the teacher to use technology in teaching, in fact it is well presented and
discuss the lesson well. Respondent number 9 said that it is not affected weather the
teacher used technology or not in the learning process of the student because it is upon or
depend on how the student learn the lesson and respondent number 10 said that some

student will not focused or listen to the discussion since they have their own copy of the
lesson.

In question number four, the researchers asked the respondent if the technology
are efficient as a teaching material for the students.13 out of 14 respondents agreed that it
is efficient as a teaching material for the students. Respondents said that its more helpful
for them to understand the lesson well if their teachers used technology as a teaching
material for the lectures but respondent number 14 said that partially agreed that the
technology efficient as a teaching material for the students

In question number five, respondents asked of how they respond to the teaching
process with the use of technology.13 out 14 respondents said that it is easier to deal with
the teaching process with the use of technology, because they understand the lesson well
and gaining more knowledge if their teachers used technology and they more but
respondent number 2 said that it depend on the teacher’s teaching process if they deliver
their lesson.

In question number 6, the respondents asked if how technology help the

respondents to cope with their lessons. 9 out of 14 respondents said that through
technology they understand the lesson well with the use of power points and mobile
phones for their research and other requirements they also said that they can retrieve
more information easier than going to the library or e books now in just one click they get
the answers. But in the other side 5 out 14 respondents said that it is helpful for them
because the lectures can send them online if they are not able to attend their class. 1 out
of 14 respondents said it’s helpful to avoid noise during class and when the teachers are
lecturing.

FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter contains the summary of findings, conclusions and recommendations

of the whole study that based on the results and findings of the study.

Findings

The research was conducted with an aim to the field of the perception of senior
high school students in the usage of technology in teaching. Hence, considering the
problems, factors and suggestions. This study has explored and conducted in senior high
school of Philippine Women’s University-Career Development and Continuing
Education Center, students are aware of the usage of technology that are being used in
their classrooms because they can enumerate what technology that are being used of their
teachers and their teachers discuss the lesson well with the use of technology because
students understand the lesson well when their teacher used technology for teaching. It is

helpful for senior high school students in their study because their activities will be ease
when they are using technology.

Conclusions

Each student is asked by the researcher and gathered data from them. Power
points are the common technology that are used by the teacher to present their lessons. It
really helps the students to visualize the topic and using this technology teachers can
easily imparted knowledge to their students. But not everyone can access technology, it
may be the disadvantage of this also not all the student has a good eyesight, some student
can’t properly see the presented lessons. With the use of technology educators presents
well their topic. It is easier for the students to deal with the teaching process with the use
of technology and it is very helpful for the students to understand the lesson well.

Recommendations

Educators. With the use of technology, they can enhance more their teaching skills for
them to become more interactive and students will be encouraged to listen on them.

Students. When using technology in your room especially in teaching be more attentive
and focus on the presented lesson. If you have a poor eyesight try to sit in front and don’t
hesitate to say that you can’t clearly see the presented lesson so that the educator will be
aware and will adjust the size for you to see it clearly.

Future researcher. Researchers must know and study their topic to present well their
research also this result will help them, and it serve as a guide for those who will undergo
or pursue this kind of topic. Researchers suggest that try to conduct this study in other
provinces so that we will know what other students’ perception in the usage of
technology in teaching.
