Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics VII

February 14, 2018

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson 80% of the students will be able to:
a. Define what parallel line is.
b. Construct the perpendicular to a given line through a given point on the line.
c. Appreciate better insights of geometric figures through celebrating Valentines Day
II. SUBJECT MATTER
GEOMETRY
Content standard:
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of geometry of shapes and
sizes, and geometric relationships.
Performance Standard:
The learner is able to create models of plane figures and formulate and solve
accurately authentic problems involving sides and angles of a polygon.
Learning Competency:
The learner uses a compass and straightedge to bisect line segments and angles and
construct perpendiculars and parallels. M7GE-IIId-e-1

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student”s Activity

A. Class Preparation

May I ask anyone to lead a prayer? Ma’am.

Yes, please. Let us all pray...

Good morning everyone! Good morning Ma’am.

Please take your seats. Thank you Ma’am.

May I ask who are not absent today? (Students answer)

Thank you.

What was our activity yesterday? We construct a midpoint of a line and an angle bisector.

How do you find the construction? It’s fun ma’am!

Good to hear that, thank you.

B. Motivation:

I have told you to bring the same material I lend to Yes ma’am.
you yesterday did you bring it?

That’s great! Today we will have another activity We’re ready ma’am.
same thing as yesterday but with another geometric
figure. Are you ready?

C. Presentation:

Okay now, I will first demonstrate how to construct.

Given: Line and point P on ℓ.

Construct: Line through P perpendicular to ℓ

1. Using centerP and any radius, locate

two points, X and Y, on the circle
which are on ℓ .

2. The perpendicular bisector of XY is the

perpendicular to ℓ that passes
through P.

Since PX and PY are equal, P is the midpoint of XY. Hence the

Can you tell why? perpendicular bisector of XY contains P and clearly is
perpendicular to ℓ .
Now, it’s time to construct the perpendicular to a

given line through a given point not on the line, are
you ready?
Given: Line and point P which is not on .
Construct: Line through P perpendicular to .
The technique used in Construction 6 will be
utilized.

1. Using Pas center draw arcs of circle

with big enough radius to cross the
line ℓ . Mark on ℓ the two points (X
and Y) crossed by the circle.
2. The perpendicular bisector of XY passes
through P and is the line we want.

D. Analyzation
I have here worksheets (Distributed). It’s time for us
all together to the same thing as how I did in the
board.

(Once each student completes the "We Do"

worksheet and it has to be checked)

E. Generalization (Some students will volunteer).

May I ask volunteers to come up here and explain

how they did your work?
(Give feedback if:

1. A step is done wrong,

2. They come up with a better way.
3. They have another way to complete task)

F. Application

To construct a line parallel to a given line and though

a point not on the given line

Given: Line and point P not on ℓ.

Construct: Line through P parallel to ℓ.

IV. EVALUATION

A. What is a parallel line?

B. Draw ∆ABC such that AB = 6 cm, BC = 8 cm and AC = 7 cm long. Use a ruler for this. Do the following
constructions using .

1. Bisect the side BC.

2. Bisect the interior B.
3. Construct the altitude from vertex C. (The perpendicular from C to AB.)
4. Construct a line through B which is parallel to side AC.
5. Construct an equilateral triangle PQR so that PR and the altitude from vertex C have equal
lengths. .
C. Congruent angle construction can be used to do the parallel line construction instead of
perpendicular construction. How can this be done? What result are we applying in the parallel line
construction?

V. ASSIGNMENT:
Make a Valentine’s Day greeting card through constructing creative geometric figures
out of the constructions we did.
