LESSON PLAN FOR MULTI-GRADE CLASSES

GRADE 2 & 3
Grade Level: 2 and 3
Subject: Music
Topic: Pitch
Objectives:
a. Distinguish a high pitch from a low pitch
b. Perform and sing the sofa syllables in correct rhythm and pitch with Curwen
hand signs
c. Show the importance of Pitch in music

Materials Needed:
Pictures of object that illustrate high( sun, cloud, airplane) and
low( grass, flowers, worm)
Tarpapel
Laptop
Envelop
Manila paper

Procedure:
1. The teacher comes to class with her usual outfit . The teacher will begin the
lesson by displaying the high and low pictures and Ask the students if they
can find any similarities between any of the pictures. After that the teacher
will discuss that the pictures show some objects that are found high up in
the air and some that are found down low into the ground. Teacher will also
explain to the students that in music there are high and low sounds and
they are called the pitch of the music.

2. The teacher will ask the students to come up with ways that they could use
their whole body to show the high and low sounds in music.

For GRADE 2, they can jump for high and set down on floor for low

For GRADE 3 , they can stand tall on tiptoe and reach for the sky for high and
to squat down low to the ground for low

3. After the activity the teacher should give compliment the students success
with their contrasting movements for the high and low music.
4. Afterwards, teacher will tell the students that they are going to watch a
video that contain of different musical instruments sounds and ask the
students to group them either it is belong to high pitch and low pitch .
5. The teacher will explain to the students about that in music there are high
and low sound that are arranged in a way that is pleasing to the ear and tell
the students that music is not the only thing that has high and low pitch—
our voices do too.

6. The teacher will introduce to the class about the sofa syllables and the
Curwen Hand Sign Signal which may help them to sing high and low
pitches.
Afterwards, The teacher will give another activity into the class:

For Grade 2, they will sing the sofa syllables with the correct rhythm and
pitch
For Grade 3, they will perform the Curwen Hand Sign Signal

Evaluation:
The students would be formally evaluated on their ability to distinguish
between high and low pitches and to create body movements to represent
each.

Extension Activity:
Each students will be given a task which is to sing their favorite folk song
music in their place that contained of high and low pitch And ask them why pitch is
important in music. Make sure to dispel any discrimination and the task are
distributed equally
