Part 1: Explore Terms of Service Agreements
a. Do you have an account with an online social media and/or storage provider? If so, have you
read the Terms of Service agreement?
With the given examples of social media in the document, I actually have one of each;
and of course, in making an account, these social media applications will require you to read
their Terms of Service Agreement before you proceed into using their platform.
The user has control over who sees what they share on Facebook
o This is done by customizing our privacy settings
o We can select who sees what we share by using the "Audience Selector"
tool. When we create a customized audience, we can selectively share with
specific people.
o Tag review and Timeline review are options that help us control who sees
what we post and what posts appear on our Timeline. Tag review lets us
approve or dismiss tags friends add to our posts. Once we approve a tag,
the person tagged, and their friends may see our post.
The user can secure their accounts through tools provided by Facebook
o Passwords. Facebook requires users to use passwords that are hard to
guess. They should at least be 6 characters long and use a combination of
numbers, letters, and special characters.
o Alert Signals. Facebook alerts users about unrecognized logins. A user can
choose to get an alert when someone tries logging in from a computer,
phone, or tablet that Facebook doesn't recognize. These alerts will tell us
which device tried logging in and where it's located.
o Two-factor authentication. When a user turns on two-factor authentication,
they’ll be asked to enter a special security code each time they try to access
their Facebook account from a new computer, phone, or tablet.
o Logging out. The "Where You're Logged In" section of our "Security and
Login" settings shows us a list of computers, phones, and tablets that have
been used recently to log in to our account. The user is made known to
scams and Hacked accounts.
o Scams. Facebook provided the following to watch out for to protect
ourselves from scams:
People who you don’t know asking for money
People asking you for advance fees to receive a loan, prize or other
winnings
People claiming to be a friend or relative in an emergency
Messages or posts with poor spelling and grammar errors
o Hacked accounts.
Facebook requires people to use their authentic names on Facebook
which helps motivate all of us to act responsibly, since our names
and reputations are visibly linked to our words and actions.
They also ensure that if they discover that people have multiple
personal profiles, they might ask them to close any additional
profiles.
They also remove accounts that impersonate other people.
e. What are your rights regarding your data? Can you request a copy of your data?
In the data policy of Facebook, they’ve included that as users we can manage or delete
information about ourselves. They give us the right to access, rectify, port, and erase our data.
Also, yes, we are given the ability to download a copy of our information on Facebook, there is a
tool for this which is the Download Your Information tool. This is found under Managing your
account – Accessing and Downloading Your Information. Additionally, If we delete our account,
Facebook deletes things we have posted, such as our photos and status updates, and we won't
be able to recover that information later.
