Measurement
What is Measurement:
Measurement is comparing, sorting and ordering objects by size.
Why is it important:
It is important for children to build a foundation of these math skills so they can apply it to new, more
complex math concepts as they get older.

What can you do at home?

Treasure Hunt: You can go on a family treasure
hunt (either around the house or the backyard).
Everyone can find 2 or 3 items. Who found the
biggest? Who found the smallest?

What’s Cooking: When you are in the kitchen

making dinner, you can have your child compare
the sizes of kitchen pots and pans. You can have
them compare any of the utensils you have
around the kitchen.

Who is Taller: You can place marks on

the wall at the height of all family
members. Then you can talk about
who is tallest. You can also have your
child stack blocks to see how many
blocks tall they are.
