STANDARD LESSON PLAN FORMAT

I. Describe the Class

There are 25 students in a kindergarten classroom. All students in this class are fluent in English and are
experiencing the changing of season from summer to fall. Students become aware of the season change and
begin wearing extra layers of clothing to keep warm. The class knows the difference between cold and hot
but do not understand the pattern of the seasons.

II. Subject/Skill:

Students will focus on the different seasons and how the different seasons affect how we feel. Students will
watch a short video on the season changes and be asked questions relating to the video. Students will learn
how the temperature changes during different months.

III. Objective(s)
1. Students will compare the different seasons and how season change makes changes in the way we dress,
eat, and the activities we follow.
2. Students will be able to recognize the correct season for the correct month.
3. Students will be asked questions regarding season change and will placed into groups to work together
on their season activity.

IV. Procedures

1. Students are going to watch a short video comparing the different seasons.
2. After the video, students will be asked a set of questions including information from the video they
have watched.
3. Teacher will discuss how seasons change and how our minds and bodies react to the changes.
4. Once the students have had time discussing how they prepare for the season change, students will
get into small groups to work together while completing their activity.
5. Students will be given a season template with 4 boxes titled “This is me during..”.
6. Students are to fill in the blank with the season and how they dress during that specific season.
7. Students will also write down 3 words describing how they feel during Spring, Summer, Fall, and
Winter.
8. Materials will be given to students to be creative while drawing their image connecting with the
season.
9. Once they are done with the project, the teacher will go over a couple of the words each student
used to describe how they feel during a season change and compare how many students wrote
something similar.

V. Materials

1. 4 Season template
2. Markers
3. Colored pencils
4. Cotton
5. Pipe cleaners
6. Glitter
7. Glue
8. Scissors
9. Tissue paper

VI. Grouping Structures

Students will work together in groups of their choice while they work on their 4 Seasons activity. Supplies
will be given to each group and students must share accordingly. While in these groups, students may talk
amongst themselves on what they do during different seasons. Example: During summer I go swimming.

VII. Modifications

Accommodations can be made for students unable to participate in the activity such as being read a book,
given a different assignment, or be explained the seasons in a shorter method. Based on individual needs,
teachers and caregivers can try accommodating students as best to their ability and provide different
teaching strategies.

VIII. Assessment

As students finish their assignment, they will think of 3 different words to add to present how they feel
during each season. Students will go over what they wrote and see how many others provided a similar
feeling. The teacher will demonstrate different items and students will yell out which season they think
it belongs to. The teacher could also use the game of charades for students to identify what the season
might be.
